I agree with this one. I was going to go back to citi's financial statements to try to calculate how long they have before TSHTF and it suddenly occurred to me that every financial statement they have is suspect at this point.
No one knows the "value" of any of their assets. They have a nominal dollar amount that they might have been worth at some point, but clearly are not "worth" that in any real sense.
Even if they have a portfolio of loans that are "performing", that is, the borrowers are making the payments, they are no longer backed up by any known amount of underlying assets.
Also, Citi is just one of the many players that are in exactly the same boat.
Also, at this point, no one, including me, knows what the value of their real estate is. The inventory of unsold homes in my area is approximately 24 months.
This situation will continue until or unless some confidence is restored to the system, if possible.
