$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Shannymara', 'R')egarding 2% growth and "what does that mean?", I think doubling time is a good way to clarify that.
Gotta be better ways to do shock-and-awe with the world's population than "2% growth". The problem is that it's slippery.
http://www.census.gov/ipc/www/$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')ccording to the current estimates, the world population reached 6 billion on June 11, 1999 at about 3:11 AM GMT (June 10 at 11:11 PM EDT). Because of the uncertainties of the estimates, and the fact that we are constantly updating our estimates, the estimate of when 6 billion was hit will change. The United Nations, whose population estimates differ somewhat from our figures, celebrated the "Day of 6 Billion" on October 12, 1999.
Darn, undercounted again. Had to move the 6 billion date back again.
Still if you want to make a statement

"2.3 people more per second" or "139 more people every minute" might have more impact.
I like "over 73 million more people this year".
