Eastbay, you are seeking perfection.

Wind power is one of the most perfect forms of energy generation known to man.

What could conceivably be better than passively absorbing the sun's heat?

Eastbay, your opinion comes from a very radical brand of environmentalism that I do not ascribe to.

However, the vast majority of the world is willing to kill a few birds for the sake of human survival.

Here is a better solution. FEWER PEOPLE. Not what you expected to hear, huh?

Tyler...

Again, there's nothing improper about suggesting there must be a better way to gather that tiny sliver of electricity. Or maybe just not.

This style of windmill power generating serves as a perfect symbol of our common decline. There is no cost too great for that extra .5%.

And you better not voice opposition or the clouds will immediately gather over you...

Eastbay...Do something about it rather than just feeling sorrowfull. If this is where your passions lie...do it!

Quote Myself:
But anyhoo, what I meant to say is...rather than complaining about bird deaths, why not figure out a way to prevent it.

Maybe a certain paint pattern on the windmill blades may alert the birds to keep away.

Maybe a whisteling noise from the blades could avert this problem.

I used to live in eyesight of the blades Ron. I no longer do having handed in the badge and retired moving far away to better prepare for Our Common Disaster. Those blades creeped me out. It was a 'greener than thou' show for tourists... and had next to nothing to do with producing the juice.

Yes, I agree fully. Fewer people could theoretically mean less electricity... Other threads have probably covered this fine suggestion quite adequately too. I avoided those threads ... a bit too heated and mean for my liking... and will leave it at that.

Name-calling. From a moderator. I won't toss names back, because It's counterproductive. And just plain poor social graces.

I'm sorry. You're right. The name calling was inappropriate and I'm removing it from my original post.

This is one of those issues I get kind of fired up about and I forgot my manners.

Cool Tyler... no problem...

About the only wisecrack I ever toss out anymore is the one where I suggest someone should, 'back away from that bottle'... or words to that effect. Maybe I add a smiley face as well. It seems safe enough. Not very insulting... a touch of humor to it in my opinion too!

heh ... and I bet usually I'm right too!! And, no, I'm not referring to you, Ron... heh.

Of course. Don't be silly.

And for the sake of my families survival I would do whatever it takes too. Anyone would. But those few thousand Altamont windmills have nothing whatsoever to do with human survival. Or family survival. They are show only. If you're ever in the Bay Area check them out. They're a tourist attraction. A creepy one.

Like a Stephen King or a Dean Koontz kind of creepy.

Where's I_Like_Plants? You'd think a bird lover like him would be up in arms about this.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('lawnchair', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('steam_cannon', '

That looks like steam, to a bird that looks like a cloud and maybe a nice perch. It may be hot, it may be cool. If it's hot birds cook flying though it. If it's cool, birds suffocate flying though it.

That's not steam (at least in the sense of water over 100C). That's condensing warmish water vapour. It looks like a cloud, because it is a cloud. Birds do not suffocate in moist air any more than they suffocate on a foggy day. They don't perch on the cooling tower due to the relatively fast updraft winds.

Obviously nuclear isn't perfect. You could have pictured Chernobyl or a Uranium pit mine. But, the picture you showed is environmentally friendlier than a Wal-Mart parking lot.
Nice, thanks for the correction!

Funny Narz...

Oh, ILP is here and probably scratching his head wondering what the big fuss is all about. You know, anything that takes food away from cats can't be all bad... heh.
