The most interesting people don't care about status, and there are many here on the board. I would rather communicate with a homeless person who can quote Shakespeare while on crack, or ranting Viet Nam vets, than endure what passes for discourse, flowing like verbal sludge from Mr. or Mrs. Middle America--- non readers, non thinkers, sub-verbal, inarticulate serial consumers.
Wow, what a choice! An erudite drug addict or a suburban nonreader. I feel like that's pretty much my choice every day, here in this little town. Except it's meth, not crack. Let's get with the times, after all. Anyway, neither choice is enjoyable in the least.
Yeah, I agree with the people who are saying there's much more interesting discourse here than is available in the supposed real world, which just makes me want to nod off.
Last interesting conversation overheard in the county courtroom, Wasco Co., OR:
Commissioner 1: "Given limited county funds, should we hire another cop or another librarian?"
Commissioner 2: "How about a librarian with a gun?"
County Judge: "How about a cop who can read?"
I shit you not. I was there. It was 1999.
