Finder's keeper's?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'Y')ou know what the say, finders keepers, losers weepers. Well, a Cleveland contractor found a lot of money, old rare bills, hidden in the walls of a home he was hired to remodel. It's a lot of cash, and he wants to keep it.

The problem is the walls aren't his, and no one knows who that money belongs to.
The house belongs to Amanda Reece.

Contractor Bob Kitts was about to begin work on Reece's bathroom when he found the cash, 182 thousand dollars, stashed in the walls.

It was wrapped in newspapers from 1949, along with articles about Adolf Hitler and Elliott Ness. Like a fine wine, this cash has grown more valuable with time. Appraisers say it's really worth half a million dollars. Is there any chance that Kitts will see any of that money?

Reece's attorney says it amounts to a "shakedown."

Kitts and his attorney think the 10 percent that Reece offered Kitts the day he found the money is far from fair. So they filed a lawsuit, citing the "Treasure Trove or Finders Keepers Law."

well from what i've heard , this money are unrelated to the homeowner also. But what is most interesting is how in the world such info could leak ? How in the world he actually lost the posession of the money?

The more interesting question is: how did that money get in there in the first place?

It was and is fairly common for folks who were around during the depression to be hyperfrugal and keep stashes of money around in coffee cans or buried in the back yard.

Unheard of in these days to be both that frugal or not keep it in the bank.

It is also not 100% certain that money was not the result of some illegal activity, and stashed. The person who hid it may have had an "accident" that prevented him or her from getting it back.

Anyway, we know who is going to make all of the money now: the lawyers on each side.

My house was built in 1913, why can't I find a case hidden in my wall with $189,000.00 in it? Preferably in $1.00 denomination bills that have not changed since the 1930's.....

Sure would make PO preperations a heck of a lot easier.

Not unheard of, just rare. And about to become a lot less rare - we'll see our first bank runs in the US in early 2008.

Too bad the guy just didn't keep his mouth shut. Oh well they never can. Chances are, if he's smart, he'll take his 10% and run.

I once found a wallet near Punahou School, a school for rich snots and privileged nonwhites in Hawiai, it had $90 in it. I kept the $90 and put the wallet in the mail box. The wallet belonged to some Hawaiian kid - I was happy to keep the murdering thug's money.

$189,000 is just walking around money today*.

However, back in the 40's it was a huge stash! There's no doubt the guy who put it there had stashed it for when he could later use it and died beforehand. Amazing too is how the person who found it went around bragging about his good fortune. Now the big mouthed idiot has to pay not only lawyers but waste what's left -if any- on income taxes.

*At 5% it pays about $26.00/day. Walking around money.

The guy who found it will be lucky to get anything now. How dumb can ya get??

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('kadoomsoon', 'H')e was just ignorant and never read Bible before.

He should have done the remodeling, left it in the wall then bought the house for POTENTIAL.

Just like the Bible said to do.

Find a treasure. Rebury it, buy the field and then it is yours.

The Bible does not condone this. That would be considered deceiving or a type of scheming, which are both against God's word. For me, I would have just taken the money and kept my mouth shut. LOL, it obviousely wasn't the homeowners, so the contractor has every right to it if he kept his mouth shut.
