Maybe its just me... but I find the freerice.com concept kind of grotesque. Well to do people in wealthy nations get to think not only about how great they are for helping out some starving person in the 3rd world, but also get to believe that the greater their vocabulary skills, the more of a do-gooder they can be... You poor, starving people can have food, but only if I get to feel as smug as possible about what a great person I am.
Meanwhile, rather than helping people in the 3rd world be self-sufficient, they're just apparently given free rice (not even sure that they will end up with the rice).
So the end result is that people in 3rd world nations are encouraged to increase their already unsustainable populations, but receive no useful skills, and wealthy, educated people in the developed world make a serious ecological problem worse. The only real benefit of freerice.com being to make the person answering the questions feel good about themselves.
