SPG, yeah, I just meant PMS, Jato, Zardoz, etc., not the teeming hordes. Can't save everyone. But I'm sure they all have important reasons for staying where they are. I was just being selfish by expressing my wishes.


That goes for me too if any of the above manage to escape to SE Oklahoma or SW Arkansas. With the timber market being down right now, Weyerhouser and Georgia Pacific are dumping thousands of acres. Lots of good deals in the Ouachita and Kiamichi forests. Very isolated and cheap(2K an acre). I guarantee we will still have hamburgers post crash.

Ramen noodles, 17 cents for two 180 calorie servings. that's less than a buck a day per person. Embellish with canned or frozen veggies or other stuff when available.

Storage: shelf life is 18 months. Gotta keep them dry.
Ease of use: good (gotta have some hot water).
portability: fair.

Here are some recipe ideas to add a little variety. Also increases the cost a little bit.

Ramen Noodles

The little packet of flavor stuff in there has all of the sodium in it. The noodles themselves are made of some quantity of lard, so not the most nutritious.

To train for oilmageddon I eat these daily for lunch. The co-workers think I am just being thrifty, which is also correct.

Good luck to you who think nobody in the USA will starve. There will be starvation even with a slow crash. 90% of those alive today are not going to live as long as they think (if, despite brainwashing, they should think).

The greater the overshoot, the more catastrophic the dieoff. Forget about cooperation and "making ends meet" like the first great depression.

Anyone here bought a 50# bag of wheat flour lately?

I've got 8,000 pounds of dry food and over 1,500 more coming. I even ordered a 50# bag of instant whipped topping mix so I can continue to enjoy a little extra something on my hot cocoa.

You guys can starve, I'll be eating good for the next 20 years...and that doesn't even include all the hunting and fishing I plan to do.

Maybe so, PMS. It's certainly not as if I haven't thought of that before. And if it happens it will suck. But I've done the best I can to minimize the chances, and maximize my chances of defending ourselves if necessary, and that's all I can do. There's no point in my sitting here in fear about it. You can't accuse me of not taking it seriously, either. I've done more prepping than 90% of the people on this site.
Maybe you can get Jack to come by and give you a helping hand. He sounds well armed, a regular PO Rambo.

I've never been convinced that "hordes" of any kind are likely. However a dramatic increase in violent crime is almost a given IMO.



Whew! And here I thought I was the only one who didn't believe in the Zombie Hordes!

The data indicates that prohibitions, not economic conditions, have the greatest impact on murder rates.

That's not to say that crime rates will not increase given economic problems, I'm just saying that it has not been the trend for the past century.

Moreover, violent crime is most common among unemployed or underemployed urban folk in dying neighborhoods. The violent crime rate among those people could increase without having a major effect on the kinds of places where PeakOil.com writers live.

But now we're not talking about food...

That stuff isn't very covert to even the most basic ELINT systems.

Not that it would matter much. The people coming to get your stuff (assuming a powdered whipped toppings search and seize mission) in Montana would likely be the 163rd Heavy Infantry NG unit. Bradley fighting vehicles, etc.

ah who am I kidding, I don't believe any of that stuff. I think you got a bigger problem with bugs, mice and other vermin.

(I wouldn't worry too much about marauding Americans--except possibly for small bands of ex-military--as most Americans are far too stupid/inept to engage in such behaviour. Just last week some zombies from Idaho pulled over to ask me where a certain cafe was--they were RIGHT IN FRONT of the place, big illuminated sign and all--and said they'd been driving all over, couldn't find it (in a town that's 6 blocks long).

See what I mean?

I think you googled a specific ELINT (Electronic Intelligence) system (perhaps "white cloud"). That's a very sophisticated example. ELINT is any electronics snooping system. Like the guys who drive around and find wireless routers are performing ELINT. When they actually start collecting and interpreting wireless communications, they are performing SIGINT (signals intelligence). I just meant it would be easy to detect that a perimeter surveillance system was being used. Like a good thief would know to check for a home alarm system. But hey, its better than nothing and I have a pretty neat home alarm and surveillance system myself (it's mostly a hobby). But that's neither here nor there in this thread.
