geez, hovering around $96. Petrol prices in Australia haven't really changed to reflect this yet, when is really strange for them, they normally have teams of people with sticks changing petrol prices almost as fast as the crude price changed.

I think its partly because of the strong aussie dollar (or weak greenback) and the fact that the government has been threatening an inquisition on oil companies for gouging and price colusion. It can't last, sooner or later the pump price will jump dramatically. $2.00+/l by xmas, ouch.

Oh. One poorly-worded line from her, and the right-wing bloggers went into a slobbering, shrieking, hysterical frenzy. It was just them, you'll notice. It appears they picked it up from each other, which is not unusual. I went way down the Google list, and not one real news organization even mentioned it, as far as I can tell.

No, she has no plans to nationalize the oil industry.

I love the reasons for high oil prices given in this article. Not much on low supplies. Mostly they blame the Turks.

She said in the most recent debate the first thing she would do is seize 5billion in profits from the oil companies.

Volatility is great for making money. You "just" have to do a couple right guesses and it's big bux. In the oil business, this isn't even very hard to do. Just keep an eye on Dante's news flashes :)

In the Dem debate Tuesday night she said she would seize 10 Billion in unfair profits.

Well here is a news flash, PEMEX is having trouble getting restarted. Total lost production may now exceed 3 million barrels, and may be near 4 million.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')exico's Pajaritos Oil Port Remains Shut, May Open At Midday

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
November 1, 2007 12:21 p.m.

MEXICO CITY (Dow Jones)--Mexico's Pajaritos oil port in the Gulf of Mexico remained shut Thursday morning due to bad weather, but could reopen at midday if the weather improves, said a port official.

Mexico's other oil ports in the Gulf of Mexico, Dos Bocas and Cayo Arcas, reopened earlier in the week. Cayo Arcas, which exports 800,000 barrels a day, is the largest of the three ports, according to Petroleos Mexicanos officials.

This week Mexican state oil monopoly Petroleos Mexicanos was forced to shut in over 1 million barrels a day in output because it ran out of storage space due to the shipping halt. Pemex said it resumed production on Wednesday.

Maybe take the money from the companies with the fattest margins instead of the oilcos? Like Google or Microsoft?

Or maybe from the 1 % of the US population which is capturing 46 % of all US income?

But oh no, assault the evil oilcos...

I sure hope she doesn't drive a car, the hypocrite.

As if she could. A calculated bit of crap intended to endear herself to those voters who think rising energy prices are purely the fault of the greedy oil industry. There are a lot of those people, you know. She probably bought herself quite a few votes by saying that.

Taking profits from oil companies? Dow is down 360 with some of the blame to Exxon Mobil. Yes, take profits from oil companies so oil company stocks plunge and another black monday comes! Vote for Hilary so the U.S. economy goes downhill!! please!! I don't want to live in the U.S. anymore!
