')Would any notice/care if Africa died off?
Ever done any past life regressions? I'll bet you were a slave ship captain or a plantation owner.
Maybe those in Africa would care?
Oh, I'm sure the people living in Africa are going to be quite upset about the coming dieoff.
But let's be honest, how many people in the developed world spend more than a passing thought worrying about folks on a different continent?
How much influence does the average citizen of Lagos or Nairobi have?
Millions of people can and will die before anyone changes their behavior in the West. Only when the crisis hits home will anyone try to do anything about it.
Did you not look at those charts?
Not a single country in Africa is an exporter of grain. Talk all you want about oppression, racism, civil war, drought, etc...but it doesn't change the fact that nothing can be done to sustain a rapidly growing population on a continent incapable of feeding itself without massive help from the West.
I agree with you JC,
I would add though that millions have died in Africa in just the past couple of decades, and other than a little hand-wringing by some bleeding hearts little to nothing has been done, and honestly, how is a whole continent saved? It has been stated before but is worth repeating: Idealism will be an early casualty of PeakOil.
And yes, I have done past life regressions. Whether there is any validity to the practice is a very open question. What people usually make out of them is a pile of crap. IMHO.
