I was wondering what this "Expert" label meant, especially since some of the recipients were somewhat questionable to me. After reading this thread, I've come to the conclusion that it's meaningless and I should just go back to judging posters by the quality of their posts and not by any labels attached to their names.

If there has to be and "Experts" here, it would be someone like pup55, DantesPeak, Montequest or the like, people who actually contribute substantive news and information.

But there doesn't have to be such a designation. We all know who they are, and they don't need a "title". I would submit to Aaron that this designation has already been diluted so much that it's not worth the trouble and to revert back the the labels based on number of posts.

Unless, of course, this was an experiment to see who would get pissy about not being labeled "Expert", in which case, please carry on!

By the way, Aaron's nothing more than a damn troll with Admin power, or didn't you all get that?

Even one little question can be a thread hijack if it's the right question.

My only expertise is in security and physical defense, and even that is minimal. So I request I don't be given that title due to a current lack of knowledge.

But if you ask my wife, I think I know everything....

I think you misunderstand... this is my opinion... nothing more.

If you feel differently... express that... I will listen.

And this thread is expressing that feeling.

Designating experts is a bad idea. It creates an artificial hierarchy that doesn't always match up when I see the quality of posts coming from "experts/non-experts". Worst of all, its bound to create resentment, which is unhealthy to open discussion. Hey, this is supposed to be a community, right? Not a lecture theatre with supposed roles. Let the quality of people's posts be their only measure, not your sole opinion.

If you have to give some sort of status to a serial poster, as some measure of appreciation, a better one would be 'elder'. That way it would designate some sort of respect for those pillars of the community who have been with us a long time, whilst recognising that they might also just be a bit demented and set in their ways.

I think the obvious shills need to be removed, they weary everyone.
Spontaneously and randomly.
The 911 thread wouldn't repeat add nauseum if the ones obviously not listening would be booted.
also anyone with see eye aye IP adreswses should be canceled without explanation.
And good posts should be featured on the front page.

And eveyone should have brownie points which can be traded in for slurpees on good work.

Like that.

In following this tread I am reminded of a former workmate who instead of the using the term 'expert' would use 'has been drip'. Now that opens up a whole new line of discussion that best be left to the Hall of Flames.

Actually I give little credit to the title, having judged people by how useful I find their posts, and mentally I give the the title "he or she is usually worthwhile to read."

What about a poll asking why roccman posts so many polls, then you and all of your personalities can vote?
