Would you pay $40,000 for college advice?

Unread postby mgibbons19 » Wed 17 Oct 2007, 16:26:43

She would be an idiot to charge less than the market would bear. I mean really, who cares? The vast majority of kids are going to go to average schools and get fine educations. So why do we care of a couple thousand uber-pedigree-seeking-helicopter parents are willing to make this woman a millionaire?

Good for her. Rich ppl are a resource.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'g')et a student into an elite college

It never ceases to amaze me the importance "some people" place on going to one of these so-called "elite colleges".

I have been around people from these "elite colleges" . Some are fairly bright, but they were not making that much more money than I was at the time, plus had no better job or career security. How that justifies the extra tuition money is beyond me.

Also, I had occasion one time to take a ten-day training course, conducted by the faculty of a famous business school from the Northeast US, and the end result of this was that although slightly smoother and more entertaining than the faculty of the much more modestly priced institution I attended out in the middle of a cornfield, the content was basically no different.

So I suppose that leaves the intangibles, such as networking and the ability to cling on to one of your old frat brothers as he makes his way through the family business, carrying you up the ladder with him. I would say this type of thinking is exactly what has gotten the nation into the problems it is in.

People think this way, though, and at least for the time being, it works. A degree from one of these "elite institutions" is an apparent substitute for some sort of competence. Too bad.

I wonder how much of what she charges goes to bribing college admission officers...

50%?

For without an education we are just animals.

People who don't have a college education do not matter and are gutter trash. :P

40K is a cheap ticket to the good ole boys club, for women to get their marriage degree (i.e., ticket to the marriage lottery).

The figure for males is probably 10 times higher, think skull and bones.

And let's face it, with 3 SUVs in the driveway, a fully remodeled McMansion, why not blow 40K on the kid's education, ahem, place in life?
