$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'g')et a student into an elite college
It never ceases to amaze me the importance "some people" place on going to one of these so-called "elite colleges".
I have been around people from these "elite colleges" . Some are fairly bright, but they were not making that much more money than I was at the time, plus had no better job or career security. How that justifies the extra tuition money is beyond me.
Also, I had occasion one time to take a ten-day training course, conducted by the faculty of a famous business school from the Northeast US, and the end result of this was that although slightly smoother and more entertaining than the faculty of the much more modestly priced institution I attended out in the middle of a cornfield, the content was basically no different.
So I suppose that leaves the intangibles, such as networking and the ability to cling on to one of your old frat brothers as he makes his way through the family business, carrying you up the ladder with him. I would say this type of thinking is exactly what has gotten the nation into the problems it is in.
People think this way, though, and at least for the time being, it works. A degree from one of these "elite institutions" is an apparent substitute for some sort of competence. Too bad.
