Disgusting Things

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Mon 01 Oct 2007, 20:33:08

There are many disgusting things. Flesh rots, bacteria can kill you. For some reason though, I find fly maggots the most disgusting of all. When I was a kid, I would see dead animals crawling with maggots and it would horrify me. Sort of makes you appreciate cremation. Yeah, that's what you can do with my remains.

While in the Air Force I went to Survival School and there learned that our POW's in Viet Nam would use maggots as a means to keep wounds clean. Maggots only eat decaying rotten flesh. Natures little cleaners, they will keep you alive when the alternative is infection and death. So you can see disgusting depends on where and when you are.

Now you've done it.

One can only imagine where this thread is going to go.

Yea PMS, learn to love maggots; they might be the new at-home technique for keeping wounds healthy and infection free when you get shot in the leg in peak oil world :D

If maggots only eat decaying, rotten flesh and PMS put one in his leg wound, how would the maggot know when to stop munching?

I've taken quite a shine to the Black Soldier Fly maggots that go nuts on my compost once or twice a year. When they are working through the pile, *anything* is gone in a matter of days, if not hours. I'd be honored to be composted on my way out.

You guys continue to correct me. But you can consign my corpse to the flames, as I don't care to be eaten by maggots.

The leach is another disgusting creature that we should learn to love; they have been brought back into use in medicine on a limited basis, to keep the circulation going through severed fingers, etc. that have been sewn back on again, and also to drain bruises. But they don't seem as gross as maggots somehow.

Regards,

But cockroaches take the prize for most disgusting I think. Also Komodo dragons, and Moray eels.

Turn my limbs to jelly!

The Amazon pee pee fish as my kids put it probably tops the bill. Ouch! It swims up the urethra and then eats and dies and decays in the bladder.

Disgusting things?

Cornucopians of every stripe, of course.

More disgusting still...those who persist in violating the 2nd law of thermodynamics.

I could go on, but I might become ill. No mere maggot can compare with a (shudder!) cornucopian.
