Re: How hard is it to get our police to walk again?

I was referring to situations in which criminals were involved in police pursuits. I should have clarified. Most don't know how to drive worth beans and never plan for or even study the tactics they are to be subjected to by the pursuing police beforehand, and once that helicoptor grabs sight of you and neighboring precincts respond to the calls, kiss it goodbye. You'll be caught then.

I remember hearing 92% of police pursuits end with the police actually apprehending the suspect during or immediately after the chase. I'm sure a significant percentage of those that actually evaded the police(perhaps 95% or more) are caught days after due to license planes, and other forms of identification. Evading police in a pursuit is virtually impossible at a glance and will never work without knowing their tactics or having planned for the event beforehand.

There are some very sneaky tactics that if properly implemented could drasticaly increase success rates of evading capture during a chase, but I will refrain from mentioning them on a public website as they are very illegal, very dangerous, and I may be perceived as encouraging them. I have never seen any movie ever display them. Further, lurking police might catch on to them and come to expect them being used on occassion. A little creativity and defiance of currently accepted legal practices can go a long way, but if you're caught afterward the penalties will be much more harsh. It goes without saying that you'll certainly need a vehicle with at least the performance of a police cruiser*(see asterick below), otherwise you might as well just pull over.

You are right about criminals in general though, most of which are never involved in pursuits. Over 30 million Americans regularly smoke and possess felony amounts of marijuana. 1 in 9 Americans. Only a few of them ever get arrested. Of course, the amount of people in America's jails is quite sobering, a sad reminder of what the police are being allowed to do as our constitutional rights erode. 1 in 30 Americans either in jail, in psychiatric prisons, or on parole, 1 in 140 Americans in jail. there was an old saying, "In Soviet Russia, you don't go to prison, prison goes to you." America's incarceration rate is nearly double that of the former USSR.

*New Ford Crown Victorias do 0-60 mph in about 8 seconds, have a curb weight of over 5,000 pounds in a fully loaded police package, and can top 130 mph. Police Mustangs will be able to keep up with Audi TTs ad Porsche Boxters with 0-60 in 6 seconds, top end about 150, but are rarely used. The fabled Camaros used in the American Southwest for pursuit vehicles will hit about 170 mph and do 0-60 in about 4.5 seconds, but are very, very seldom used. New police Impalas do 0-60 in about 11 seconds and top 112 mph, although the older mid 90s ones will do 0-60 in about 7 seconds and top 140. In most cities in America, you aren't likely to have anything but Crown Vics or Impalas on you before the helicopter gets to you. Even having a fast vehicle is no garuntee of success. I know of a guy that was going 220 mph on a motorcycle an interstate 255 with very little traffic, but was still caught. No helicopter even got to the scene and no roadblock was even placed before the arrest. His performance was WELL beyond the level of any police vehicle. But he had many more opportunities of evasion than anyone else would have, and was still caught right then and there. Police radios are magical things. If you are predictable, you will be caught. Police are trained to expect certain behavior in chases because it occurs 90% of the time...

A Pandemic of Police Brutality

A Pandemic of Police Brutality
By PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS

<<SNIP>>
http://www.counterpunch.org/roberts09252007.html
Bush's "war on terror" quickly became Bush's war on Iraqi civilians. So far over one million Iraqi civilians have lost their lives because of Bush's invasion, and four million have been displaced. Iraq's infrastructure is in ruins. Disease is rampart. Normal life has disappeared.

Self-righteous Americans justify these monstrous crimes as necessary to ensure their own safety from terrorist attack. Yet, Americans are in far greater danger from their own police forces than they are from foreign terrorists. Ironically, Bush's "war on terror" has made Americans less safe at home by diminishing US civil liberty and turning an epidemic of US police brutality into a pandemic.

The only terrorist most Americans will ever encounter is a policeman with a badge, nightstick, mace and Taser. A Google search for "police brutality videos" turns up 2,210,000 entries. Some entries are foreign and some are probably duplications, but the number is so large that a person could do nothing but watch police brutality videos for the rest of his life. A search on "You Tube" alone turned up 2,280 police brutality videos. PrisonPlanet has a selection of the most outrageous recent cases.

Police brutality has crossed the line from using excessive force against a resisting Rodney King to unprovoked gratuitous violence against persons offering no resistance, such as the elderly, women, students, and elected officials. Americans are not safe anywhere from police. Police attack Americans in university libraries, in public meetings, and in their own homes.

The conspiracy theorist in me tells me that they are preparing the police and public for when the TSHTF. The police really can't put down large civil unrest. Their only hope is to use fear and intimidation to keep individuals in line. Civil unrest will usually start with an individual so controlling that individual by keeping him in constant fear is paramount. Fear of being tased, beaten, and maced with a fire extinguisher sized chemical sprays. We hung Nazis at Nurenburg for these tactics and now we are practicing them in America.

The world has already deeply changed. Most are just not aware of it yet. Tomorrow you may wake and realize you are now a slave on the land you forefathers conquered. Your rights being nothing more than a history lessen.

Have you thought that there is another side to this story? Right here in Toronto, police have shot crime perpetrators several times in recent months. Why? Becuase when people carrying knives, or guns or other weapons were ordered to drop them, they either refused to do so, or else ran. These circumstances were all investigated by the civilian based review board, and in every case, the police were found to be acting according to instruction. What kind of person runs from police or violates their direct orders like this? What kind of upbringing is that?

So, remember that perhaps your police are getting fed up with this kind of treatment they are getting from the criminals too. Brutality is a two way street. And cops cannot afford to take chances with their lives.

Totally agree, they're prepping for something where they want the public to stay in order.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '2') Patriot Act provisions ruled unlawful
By WILLIAM McCALL, Associated Press Writer1 hour, 17 minutes ago

Two provisions of the USA Patriot Act are unconstitutional because they allow secret wiretapping and searches without a showing of probable cause, a federal judge ruled Wednesday.

U.S. District Judge Ann Aiken ruled that the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, as amended by the Patriot Act, "now permits the executive branch of government to conduct surveillance and searches of American citizens without satisfying the probable cause requirements of the Fourth Amendment."

Portland attorney Brandon Mayfield sought the ruling in a lawsuit against the federal government after he was mistakenly linked by the FBI to the Madrid train bombings that killed 191 people in 2004.

The federal government apologized and settled part of the lawsuit for $2 million after admitting a fingerprint was misread. But as part of the settlement, Mayfield retained the right to challenge parts of the Patriot Act, which greatly expanded the authority of law enforcers to investigate suspected acts of terrorism.

Mayfield claimed that secret searches of his house and office under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act violated the Fourth Amendment's guarantee against unreasonable search and seizure. Aiken agreed with Mayfield, repeatedly criticizing the government.

"For over 200 years, this Nation has adhered to the rule of law — with unparalleled success. A shift to a Nation based on extra-constitutiona l authority is prohibited, as well as ill-advised, " she wrote.

I had to go to physical therapy not too long ago after shoulder surgery and the facility was used by local police and firefighters. I noticed all the police officers had thier heads shaved and wore black. A tactical unit? But what's up with the skinhead look? Is it meant to be more intimidating or what?

I can see the time when Blackwater types are used in our cities as "augmentation" for our local Law "ENFORCERS" .

They wear black because they think it looks cool.

Heads are shaved for fighting purposes.

In a fight, the body goes where the head goes. Normal length hair provides an excellent hand-hold for manipulating your opponent's head and neck.

During personal combat, a shaved head gives you a slight advantage. No handle. Easier to slip out of headlocks. Hair doesn't block your vision. Scalp wounds are easier to treat quickly without hair in the way.

B.C. Mounties get reprimand over drunken spree

MAPLE RIDGE, B.C. -- Two Ridge Meadows RCMP officers have been docked 10 days' pay for getting drunk and riding around assaulting innocent people and falsely identifying themselves as "PoCo [Port Coquitlam] police."
An RCMP disciplinary board recently found constables Pat Hughson and Steve Frazer both guilty of "disgraceful" conduct as a result of their "intentional, serial abuse of innocent passersby, without reason."

I am an Operations Agent in Las Vegas and have seen first hand people loss their minds when they miss their flights. Its is very rarely their "fault", they expect the aircraft to be brought back to the gate so they can board. I have seen LV Metro given them chance after chance to calm down and walk away and but still some will just not back down. I have never seen anyone tazed but plenty handcuffed and taken away.

Sometimes the police are right!

How the hell does one choke oneself while handcuffed? Sounds like one of the officers got impatient with her screaming and went in the holding cell, used a little physical affront to quiet her and one little snap broke her neck? Officer probably panicked and made up the story, or else his superiors did for liability consideration.
