One day there will be so many houses, that people will be bored and will go live in tents. "Why are you living in tents ? Are there not enough homes ?" "Yes there are, but we play this Economy game". Now it's "Crisis" time !Too many houses! Yes, we are insane!

wow, that sounds like it could have been made by someone frequenting this forum. I like to game once in a while, and I'll keep my eyes open for this one to hit the stores...

PS actually it's a bit sickening, I'd rather shoot some monsters in a less realistic game; here's the homepage of the game: http://www.frontlinesgame.com/

Oh my god.

He mentioned "Peak Oil"! He mentioned "The Long Emergency"!

What better way to spread the doomerism than through video games? Practically everyone's kid has a console.

I wonder if Heinberg and Simmons are serving as creative consultants for this game. Probably not Kunstler though, the intro wasn't vulgar enough, and hardly a McMansion on fire.

Release date by next year? Should give me enough training for when the real zombies stagger up my front door.

Looks like more of a strategy based game than first person shooter, kinda like Company of Heroes...

you go get the resources and build more unit's, constantly consuming more and more...hahaha so ironic.

Wow, I'll definitely have to check this out.

I'd say the "rolling blackouts lasting weeks in 2008" is a bit premature. Nevertheless, a great idea and a great way (one of the best ways) to reach a large audience.

I hope they come out with sequels and spin-offs galore. Specifically ones that focus on solutions rather than inevitable problems.

Shoot, I might as well post that on the YouTube's comments page also.

The follow up to this game was released over a decade ago. It's called fallout...

It already focuses on the most efficacious "solution", to wit: "take what you need by force"...

I actually had a similar idea before, though the gameplay would have been much different, and it would take place when the U.S. Government could no longer maintain control over any rural areas.

Of course, my idea would only run on a very powerful computer, so I'm hoping that western civilization lasts long enough for the hardware allowing me to create the game I was thinking of to be invented.

You do realise, of course, the irony of using a powerful computer to simulate what is effectively the result of what got us to being able to produce said computer, right?

:P

Actually, an interesting fact is that CPU's have gotten alot more energy-efficient in the past couple of years.

The Core 2 series, for example, has around 65W TDP as opposed to that of most Pentium-class CPUs @ substantially over 100W.

They're more powerful to boot. I don't know what they did with them, but I've heard they're bloody good.

Now, if we could do the same for graphics cards, we'd be set...
