It's the Smack Down at the End of the Universe

Postby roccman » Thu 06 Sep 2007, 21:29:19

It's Climate Change going head to head with the Peak Oil Kid...

and...

Overshoot tears into Mass Extinction.

Tickets go on sale this Friday.

The secret plan is for the dominant cultural (i.e., America) to go on this way for as long as it can...or 500 mph into a brick wall.

Who else wants to jump off this train??

(words taken from Tim...from WAW2Go)

It's the main reason I'm sticking around, to see the show. It looks like Peak Oil could save our butts. If we don't have the energy to scoop all that coal out we might not be able to stick enough carbon in the air to cook ourselves off the planet. I saw a thing on global dimming, and it is probably cooling us down by a degree celsius, while the greenhouse effect is heating us up by a degree and a half so far. The two are cancelling eachother out, but greenhouse warming may be getting the upper hand now.

A friend said not to worry about Peak Oil, as the real problem is Global Warming. After I thought about it, I decided that living without oil will be a piece of cake compared to living in the worldwide desert that could be the result of GW. According to Lovelock it's very possible that the only inhabitable parts of the planet will be around the poles. When Gaia gets pissed we had better watch out. It could be hundreds of thousands of years before we get back to a stable climate again.

Coal itself is a source of energy. If necessary, the energy "to scoop all that coal" can come from a portion of the same coal being scooped. 8)

Global dimming is GW evil twin as you mentioned.

Between 9.11-9.14-01 scientist measured temps across america in the absence of planes...a 3-6 degree jump.(f).

We need fossil fuels to be burnt to keep a pollution blanket covering us.

Actually I think we are fucked either way...so I say jump off the train and let's build a boat.

Who's with me??

This reminds me of one of my first posts here last year called "Disharmonic Convergence" listing all of the crazy things that are happening more or less simultaneously and how strange it is.

Terrorism
Peak Oil
China and India deciding they want a middle class
Global warming

Maybe this will be the real Four Horsemen.

I don't remember if I listed potential bird flu outbreak in humans, but I would list that one today. That one will be an upper cut that few people saw coming. I'll bet Monte gets a boner just thinking about the millions that will die.

Here's the boat of the 21st century:

http://www.solarsailor.com.au/

Even better would be a catamaran with solar and wind and sails. I have heard of one that has a solar powered electric motor to get in and out of port, and also has sails. Sailing cats can go over 20 knots easily. Like Waterworld! It may be the way to get around soon, if global warming keeps going we may have more ocean and less land.

How would you handle desalinization without an energy source?
Perhaps the population would be less swayed to socialism if we had fewer examples of socialism from our "Free Market Capitalists". -----fiddler dave

Many high end Yachts have Stirling Engines to handle desalinization. They harvest the energy differential between seawater and the surface air.

Forget "pleasure boating" on the seas of the world in the not-too-distant future, no matter how green your craft may be. That won't be the issue. Guys like these will render yachting a thing of the past:

Chinese Secret Society Challenges Illuminati

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A') Chinese secret society with 6 million members, including 1.8 million Asian gangsters and 100,000 professional assassins, have targeted Illuminati members if they proceed with world depopulation plans, according to Tokyo-based journalist Benjamin Fulford

Now that China has re-annexed Hong Kong, they now have access to all "5 Deadly Venom" research.

Isn't the third more general: Over Population, Overshoot and Die Off

I should have clarified--the Four Horsemen I visualize have the following riders:

The terrorism horse - generic wild-eyed Islamic Jihadist with a big Ali Baba sword

The peak oil horse - T. Boone Pickens is riding this one bucking bronco style

The China and India middle class horse - one horse with about 600,000,000 Indians and Chinese piled on top of it

The global warming horse - Al Gore with Tipper riding bitch

That would scare the CRAP out of me if the world was already coming to an end and I saw them all come riding out of the doom mist.
