$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Cloud9', 'T')he real truth is most Americans don't give a hoot what the rest of the world thinks. Most of us except for a few neocons are isolationists. Ask the average soccer mom where the Sudan is and she couldn't find it on a bet. To her, most of the rest of the world is irrelevant. That changes the moment some part of it impinges on her lifestyle. In that moment, she will change her focus and give that little part of the world her undivided attention. If her grandmother is any example, she will roll up her sleeves and build the ships, airplanes and tanks necessary to solve the problem.
The above statment is 100% correct. Look, the United States is huge Geographically. It's Military, Culture, Economy, etc, etc dominates the World. It really is an Empire. Bushco is an easy target for those tired of American Dominance - especially liberal Europeans and the old communist still running around. The split between Europe and the US was well under way before Bushie got elected. The world has changed a great deal since the fall of the Berlin Wall. Europe is tired of the Dollar, hence the EU. The big Bad boogie man that was the Soviet Union is no longer a threat. WWII was a long , long time ago. America has acted like a big brother in helping Europe rebuild from total destruction. Well, its all grown up now and is rebelling from its big brother in order to gain some freedom and find its own "way".
Having said all that, Americans really do blindly believe that this country, this hyper-power that is the United States of America can accomplish.......anything; And I do mean Anything. Hubris is a new term I've learned while researching peak-oil.
