JHestand, welcome :)

Lots of good posts so far on oil, so I'll mention besides peak oil, you might learn a little about her twin sister climate change. When you're out of gas you are where you are and you better hope it's some place good. Like they say in real estate, it's all about location! location! location!

Hello Cynyc. You should be thankful that you have a Peak Oil-aware girlfriend. For many of us, that's the No. 1 item on our list of preparations, and the hardest to find. Heck, I'd settle for a woman whose life isn't devoted to collecting designer handbags.

I'd love to find out more about Canada. You guys are friendly enough with us southern folk that I'm considering a move up there, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not. Can one have dual citizenship?

Prepared Dude Seeks Other Atlanta Residents

Postby basic_black » Sun 22 Jul 2007, 11:27:21

Hi Everyone,

I'm a 28 year old law student in Atlanta, the sprawling black hole of oil consumption for the Southeast. (Stuck in traffic? Woohoo!) I have been following peak oil for about a year now (I found it when researching a lesson on scarcity I taught to my high school economics students last year.

In my free time, I enjoy backpacking, cycling, target shooting, and reading lots of non-fiction, especially about solar technology, organic gardening, and other self-sufficiency topics. (I'm a "useful knowledge" kind of guy, and hope to one day (hopefully in the next 10 years) buy 10-20 acres and begin creating a largely self-sufficient homestead. (My friends tease me and call it a "compound"- but then they also want to come live with me if and when the shit hits the fan. Funny how that works!)

I have also created a great 72-hour/bug-out bag, and hope to share its contents and construction soon through an annotated essay here on the forum. As Hurricane Katrina demonstrated, each of us, as individuals, is ultimately responsible for our own safety and well-being. As such, I think that having a good basic emergency kit is the first step in being prepared for peak oil (or any number of more minor events.)

If anyone else here is from Atlanta, drop me a line. I am looking to create a local PeakOil group that would meet once a month to discuss news, preparation, etc. (I'm not really much on activism anymore, but will gladly work with others to raise awareness.)

So- I've just heard from one other person here in Atlanta who has similar plans. We're planning to meet up soon to discuss concrete measures. Any other Atlantans want in?

Thanks, Steam Cannon. There is already a Meetup group here in Atlanta that does some Peak Oil stuff. Unfortunately, they are big on raising awareness, but not big on discussing concrete measures.

Of course, if I find a few of their members who are interested in preparation rather than handing out fliers, it may be worthwhile!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Cobra_Strike', 'L')ooking to drive traffic?

Skateboardman1986, if you're not just posting to drive traffic to your website, what got you interested in Peak Oil?

So you are a student, what are you studying? So far we know you are 20, enjoy risky activities and you have a blog that uses Adsense which pays you for click-thoughs. Since you haven't posted much about yourself or why you're here I'll help. :twisted:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Skateboardman1986', '
')Making Money on the Internet
"...When I make my first $100.00 she (Mom) will make $250.00. When she reaches 25 people who make a $100.00 each she will make not only the $250.00 per person but a $2000.00 bonus. You can make this bonus once a year. The program is called Google Adsense. Her website is..."

How to make pennies per page writing tripe without actually contributing to society. FYI, when you write stuff like this and you post oneliners, people are going to suspect you're just trying to get traffic.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Skateboardman1986', '
')Overview of Body Building Steroids
"If you want a healthier and safer way to boost your testosterone levels, though, you can find natural bodybuilding steroids at your local pharmacy. If used in moderation, these provide effective results if combined with a safe weight lifting program...

...Contrary to popular belief they do not produce the negative effects that are normally attributed to them..."
drugsdothebodygood.blogspot.com
I just like the name he made for this blog "drugs do the body good"! :lol:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Skateboardman1986', '
')Gas Prices - Saving Money
The main problem in car costs is fuel. Today gas prices are rising very fast and people are always searching for the best option for saving money on gas. Here are other tips on saving car costs. How many times are you taking the car to the car wash? I believe that you wash your car at least once or twice every ten days. Why don't you wash it yourself? It saves money, you can wash it with your own products and it will always look better than the car wash...
allgasprices.blogspot.com
This one is rather funny, but if he was going to post a link to his blog (allthepolitics.blogspot.com) at least this article mentions gas prices.

He/she lives in: Tennessee
His last name may be: Smith
And if so his family is into dogs... ;)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ripoffreport.com', '

...So I had called her after I got off of work around 9 pm and she was very intoxicated. I told her that the puppy had died...

...She has over 8-14 dogs depending if they got puppies at the time locked incages or stuck out back running in their own fecies. Her and her husband get drunk and get them fighting. They also get their male Boston to hump their poor cat. They are sick and cruel people.

His "Making Money on the Internet" article and username indirectly lead to this person, amusingly I'm wondering if this is his Mom?

Life's cruel enough without people having to work to make it moreso. Even if that person isn't related to them, here's hoping the local authorities prevent them from continuing to abuse animals.

For amusement, here is how I did that search

1. First I googled for "skateboardman1986".

2. This lead to this blog.
http://tinyurl.com/yo4n6w
skateboardman1986@yahoo.com
"Check out my site at http://cafescoop.com and I explain in detail how to get started. On Jul 4, 2:27 pm"

This is a blog about making money with adsense, which he also wrote an article about on in his blog, mentioning his Mom. In this blog he is directing people to "his" website about making money on the internet. The website he says is "his" is owned by "Christine Smith". "His" website also mentions dog breeding.

3. http://www.whois.ws/whois-com/ip-address/cafescoop.com/
Technical Contact:
Smith, Christine

#162
Chattanooga, Tennessee 37412
United States
(423) 362-0317
publishing1956@yahoo.com

4. Searching this (423) 362-0317
Lead to http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/1 ... 163740.htm
An article about a shady dog breeder named Christine Smith...

All this makes me wonder if this is actually a 20 year old or the older Christine Smith the website owner. They both use similar user names... But hey, maybe his Mom set up his email for him. :)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('dbruning', 'L')ife's cruel enough without people having to work to make it more so. Even if that person isn't related to them, here's hoping the local authorities prevent them from continuing to abuse animals.
Poor puppies or not, there are a lot of scummy puppy-mills in the US and I doubt anything is going to be done about that one business. But the ripoff report article is at least kind of funny, in an "omg spotting whales in walmart" kind of way!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Skateboardman1986', 'L')ooking forward to meeting people on this board.
And probably teaching them about Adsense... Google the Nick, that's all this persona does.

My problem is this blogger looks like someone created from thin air. He doesn't blog anywhere for fun, just about making money. That doesn't sound like a typical internet savvy teenager. The thing is, shady people often create persona's to trick systems like Adsense into giving them a few more bucks and this "kid" fits the profile.

Also someone who posts dumb stuff like "the new steroids is ok", can expect some criticism if he's joining this club.
