Even if it could be done, one of the things antibodies do is stimulate macrophages to initiate phagocytosis. You'd get macrophages gobbling up all your helper T cells, which would not improve the situation. Also there's every likelihood that whatever receptor HIV is grabbing hold of also serves some other function for the T-cell. Who knows what blocking it would do.

The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

They should try reverse-psychology on AIDS. Instead of trying to beat it; make it stronger...

 Yes ... always amusing.

To be fair, were I to attempt to write such a questionnaire in Chinese, I am certain that the result would be equally laughable. :P

I wonder how they will analyse those results?

I don't think there will be many results to analyze. I can't imagine too many foreigners voluntarily answering a questionnaire that's five pages long and filled with absurd questions. Some of the questions are simply unanswerable.

And there's English like this all over China. I've heard that the Bank of China in Lhasa, Tibet, has posted a sign - in order to direct foreigners to the information desk - that reads "Question Authority."

I don't know why they don't simply hire a native English speaker to proofread things. They've spent countless millions on a futile campaign to get Chinese to stop spitting in public, but they continue to bring foreigners to laughter by printing bad English all over the country.

Personally, I'd like it if they just left everything in Chinese and let us damn foreigners figure it out for ourselves. :P

Just like the big sign at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco that says "GREED IS GOOD" - I'm sure they mean something else.....

the stuff in engrish.com is real photos of real signs. Being around a lot of Asian ppl, I know it's not fiction, they really do screw it up that badly - almost 1/4 as badly as we'd screw things up in any Asian language if any of us bothered to try learning it!

After a while you get used to the "square ribs" in your local Vietnamese restaurant, or seeing a car service place's sign: "Smog Chech".

All in all I think they've done a good job at making the sight humorous without being mean.

I looked at their latest and am all giggly now....

You gotta understand, I grew up where there was a brand of all kinds of neat candies and about 100 varieties of Chinese type pickled/candied plums and things ... that brand name... Yick Lung! yep, that's right, we kids were nuts over something called Yick Lung. They had TV commercials for it, everything. If there were Yick Lung T-shirts we'd have proudly worn them. Snacks were called pupus. You got it, pronounced poos-poos. Mmmm yummy delicious poo-poos. Couple of local hole-in-the-wall restaurants were called Bat Shin and Bat Jac. Now, I always got a giggle out of Bat Shin's recipies all involving bat shins, but Bat Jac? No comment.

exactly! Check out hanzismatter, which demonstrates that Westerners are equally capable of screwing up writing in Chinese characters.

World 'losing fight against Aids'

Unread postby Bas » Mon 23 Jul 2007, 15:02:31

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'U')S President George W Bush's top adviser on HIV/Aids has said the world is losing the battle against the virus.
Dr Anthony Fauci told a conference in Sydney that progress had been made, but more people were being infected with HIV than were being treated.
"For every one person that you put in therapy, six new people get infected. So we're losing that game, the numbers game," he said.

BBC news

It seems like Aids might yet be an important (and horrible) factor in the overpopulation issue.

Yeah, give it some time, it's still at that early stage where exponential growth looks flat.

Not infective enough to be threat for heterosexual population.

1:2000 per go for man
1:1000 per go for woman

Unprotected sex with HIV positive partner assumed.

AIDS remains largely a problem of risk groups, as long as West is considered.
It is so difficult to admit in politically correct world.

It is unfortunate there are some things we are not allowed to say in the Western world. The other truth we are not allowed to say reguarding HIV is that circumcision hugely reduces the transmition of HIV.

*Bah*

That was the tune of the 80's. Been there, done that. Bought the t-shirt, never use it. It fostered a "non-fu**ing generation" in Europe, but not much more.

Africa would be down to half it's population by now if you believed the prophets in the 80's. Any indication those prophets were right then? Why should they be right now?
