Death

Unread postby jupiters_release » Fri 22 Jun 2007, 04:06:26

Reading here so much I'm a little curious how many posters are at peace with the possibility/probability of the die-off including themselves? Even though I'm afraid of the process being painful, personally I'm completely comfortable with passing on from this life.

Tried editting in "Not sure." option no avail.

One of my favorite quotes about death came from an X-Files episode.

"Death is nothing to be feared; it is merely a stage of transition. But life without hope, that's living hell."

I don't fear death, but getting old and slowing in down in life scares the shit out of me.

I'm actually not afraid of dying, but starvation has me a little worried.

In the Lord of the rings movie (and I believe the book, too), Eowyn speaks that she fears life in a cage, to be trapped until lack of use and old age accepts them [bars].

It is not death that frightens me so much as a life filled with no meaning asking nearby cubicle workers if they've seen my stapler. As a Catholic, the whole prospect of an afterlife lessens the sting. I honestly don't know how Athiests get on in life.
Only a city man would carry a bag of iron instead of a bag of rice.

Atheists hopefully aren't asking where the stapler is. They are finding meaning in the world. Huge topic I need to post on this sometime soon, I really need to bring a laptop to work so I can post while at work.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Baldwin', ' ')I honestly don't know how Athiests get on in life.

At least they have nothing to worry about what will happen to them after death, so they can concentrate efficiently on everyday tasks..

Lol. That's about right. I take pleasure where I find it. Sunsets, good vino, friendship, and orgasms.

I avoid pain, confrontation and discomfort.

My big fear is not so much death, but disability. I would prefer to die while still relatively healthy.

What a beautiful, apt quote.

Life is beautiful, death is tranquil. But the moment of transistion is unpleasant.

Death fills most survivalists lives, and a lot of us have thought about it numerous times (Matt Savinar thinks about ending his daily I hear). If anything I look forward to death, not that I am unhappy with my life or anything of that nature, it's countless "fun".

It's just that life itself whilst having some primitive points to it, has become increasingly pointless in this day and age. Where our vote (if counted) is worth 1/150000000, where if we breed we are just adding to overpopulation. People say it's a battle for the best genes to succeed and that is what drives us, but really, do the last few yeast generations before they kill themselves go "yeah we are the best of the best here"?

Even though I am rated well above the average human in nearly every criteria, I am embarrassed to *only* be human. There are faults in humans that we know will never be removed. So sure, I'll try my best to make this shit hole a better place with better people come collapse time, but I have my doubts about it actually working long term.

We can look at solutions to other problems, but when it comes to biology, and what we are, there's nothing we can do. Besides making ourselves extinct I guess, anyone preparing the flavor aid? ;)
