Jack Daniels' spring is running dry...

Unread postby Aimrehtopyh » Fri 15 Jun 2007, 13:11:12

...stock up NOW.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'J')ack Daniels water supply is running low and putting the century-plus whiskey business in jeopardy...

...For more than 140 years this spring, known as Cave Spring, has been the water supply for Jack Daniels. It is one of the most essential parts of the whiskey’s recipie...

...What will happen if the spring goes dry?

“If we can’t use what it takes to make Jack Daniels I suspect we won’t make Jack Daniels until we get all the ingredients we need,” Hamilton said.

Link to whole story

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]What now remains of the formerly rich land is like the skeleton of a sick man, with all the fat and soft earth having wasted away and only the bare framework remaining. Formerly, many of the mountains were arable. The plains that were full of rich soil are now marshes. Hills that were once covered with forests and produced abundant pasture now produce only food for bees. Once the land was enriched by yearly rains, which were not lost, as they are now by flowing from bare land into the sea. The soil was deep, it absorbed, and kept the water in the loamy soil, and the water that soaked into the hills fed springs and running streams everywhere. Now the abandoned shrines at spots where formerly there were springs attest that our description of the land is true.’ Plato Dialogues (in Hillel 1991:104)

Sorce of Plato quote.

At the moment I'm at a loss as to what else to say about this. Somebody make a zombie joke quick, before I start to cry.

I remember that bit of Plato, striking it's similarity to today. But since you asked for some humor...

The opposite of Plato is Bluto!

How long does Jack last before it goes bad? Does it get better with age?

What is the expiry time of a bottle of a sealed whiskey?
"An unopened bottle should be good for a century."
"Bottled whiskey will taste the same in 100 years as it does today."

Actually a very good item to stash for bartering after TSHTF IMHO.

Hey guys,

This collapse thing is beginning to hurt.

Poor John Daniels. It costs about €30 a bottle here in Ireland. I prefer Jameson but JD definitely has a place on my drinks cabinet.

Stop the presses! This is news of the worst kind, an environmental and personal catastrophe.
The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life.

Guess it's back to moonshine, eh, folks?

Seriously, with the drinkable WATER problems the world is starting to face, and will be overwhelmed by in short order, this story should be setting off alarm bells in people's heads. Instead, there'll be tons of "guess it's back to moonshine" jokes--until the joke tellers mouths go dry and no water can be found to fix that....

I live not too far from the JD distillery, and can tell you it is ubelievably dry here. We have been looking for land where we can start a farm, but honestly everything is so parched that it doesn't seem feasible. All the local farmers are scratching their heads and tilling under their stunted, failed crops.

The irony is that our property near Forks, Washington gets LOTS of rain -- but it's too gloomy in the PNW for my wife.

I am getting very, very concerned. It feels a lot like we're playing musical chairs, and soon the music is going to stop.

jdumars,

It's like playing musical chairs but there's 20 kids and only one chair and the music has gone on so long that the kids have forgotten what game it is they're supposed to be playing.

Irish scotch is an oxymoron.

The best most affordable Irish whiskey is IMO (no contest).

Jameson 12 year old.
