September the 13th 1999 Lunar base Alpha experiences a cataclysmic accident in it's nuclear waste disposal/storage facility.
After a mysterious new magnetic radiation effect causes the nuclear pile to detonate, the 311 moon base residents find themselves on a tour of the Galaxy as the Moon is hurled from it's orbit around the Earth.
I've been revisiting this old series from my youth recently, & rediscovering what drew me to this show in the first place.
The thing I like most about this show, was how seriously they took themselves. No wise-cracking comic relief like Star Trek... or children's characters like Star Wars... Space 1999 did their show with a straight face.
I had forgotten Commander Koenig's cool office, where he pushed a button and an entire wall slides away to reveal the moon base command center full of hard-working, ethnically diverse crew members with lots of cool gadgets.
Decently written, with commendable acting & set-building, this show was a landmark in my childhood. I had the toy Eagle & everything.
Just like so many of these shows in this era, folks way back when reasoned that oil would not last forever, & man would be forced to turn to some other energy source... like Nukes in this show.
5 Stars - Highly Recommend

The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.
