Drunk Engineer and LNG

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Sat 01 Jan 2005, 03:10:13

Tonight at the Italian restaraunt where I work a big guy came in from the bar nextdoor to order a calzone. He was really loaded and couldn't drive home. I took him home which wasn't too far away. We chatted while on the way. I asked him "What do you do for a living?" He said "Elegtrical Engineer, hic" He proceeded to tell me how his company made a part for another company that makes turbine engines, that the account was very important for his company and how he worked this account. Then he said, "Ahm the head shuk-ass. Wenever they needa somebody too shuk-ass or kishdik, Ahm the one!" I changed the topic and asked him if any of the engineers talked about peak oil. He said "Whassat?" I told him and he said, "nope, never herdovit" But just a little bit later he looked at me like a light bulb went off in his head and said, "LNG! yeah LNG, thass real big! They use the turbines in Texas and Baja to compress gas! Thersa a lot of that! We put those in." I told him, sure because we're starting to run out and we need it for the new gas fired electrical power plants. He said "nah, nah ,nah!" I said, "really, just afew years ago LNG was small potatos!" He winked at me and gave me a confidential look and said, "We jus gonna use theirs up firsht! Save ours for later!" Then he got out, banged on the roof of my car and said "Habby New Year!"

Cast not thy pearls before swine.

It's a waste of perfectly good pearls, and the pig can't appreciate them anyway. 8)

If I recall correctly, the skipper of the Exxon Valdez was a drunk engineer.

LNG, that's dangerous stuff. It's also very necessary. It's going to be interesting to see the interaction between, Governments, Environmentalists, job seekers, oil consumers, etc. when one or two of those tankers goes Kaboom. Talk about a mad scramble for the moral high ground!

Necessary?

Powerdown folks. That's necessary.

We have to quit talking about finding a solution to the business as usual question, and start looking to distributed generation of electricity (making it where you use it), and some decent options for heating and cooking.

Here's a cooking option: http://www.sunoven.com/usa.asp

I will sell, at cost, one of these units to anyone who wants one, as long as they swear to USE IT.
Same with these: http://www.solarunlimited.net/solarwall.html

I am a solar contractor. I will sell either one of these products to anyone on this forum, at cost, as long as you swear to use them.

I will not do this forever, so take advantage soon. I'm dead serious, because I want people to understand that this IS the future. Trying to find some stop-gap petroleum based solution is ludicrous.

One drunk EE does not a tanker explosion make. And after all it was New Year's eve and he was off work.

However, I do hope the guy didn't get into his car and drive while he was in that state.

Right again gg3 on both points. His car was back outside the bar by my restauraunt. No big point, I just like to write and this had just happened and seemed funny to me at the time. :-D We are allowed to have fun, right?

I've heard that quote from you before Jack. Come on! Of course the world is full of cretins! I feel like a cretin myself! hic! I've had to separate myself from right-wing nonsense because I always accused left-wing nonsense. I read Solzsenitzen and the Gulag Archepeligo. I work in public sbhools and I know about the rampant mindless sloganeering they use. I would ask you to try and summon up your humor in these end days. We don't have much choice.
