Of course he isn't. He wants everyone else to call the number.

Yeah, that's true katkinkate, but J_Rod said not to click his test post and we ignored that. How about you call it and tell us what's up with the mystery number?

It's almost impossible not to click. I don't know how many times I have clicked links in IRC even after people are making comments like "WTF OMG GROSS" "Dude, I'm at work....."

Mastercard IPO

Unread postby greenworm » Wed 24 May 2006, 23:23:59

Anyone attempting to ride this train?

PROS:

More and more people fall into debt as the cost of energy rises, "oh look I'll just use my credit card for gas". Inflation is pretty real right about now.

Solid growth without the above to be considered.

Commodity stocks could use a day off.

Lot of volume on the Burger king/Vonage ipo despite the fact that neither can compete with Mastercard in terms of future growth. People itching for a Chipotle in a big way.

CONS:

Talk of law suits pending as this is more than likely the reason for going public.

Any thoughts?

I don't care either way, but if Cramer were here, he would take care to note whether or not these IPO's were in big demand, or whether they were "flat" or went down.

Reason: it would be an indicator of whether the overall market was at a top or not.

Marketwatch

Here is the answer. All three went down after the IPO. The overall market is weak.

I am not concerned what it will do in the future, only today. Cramer leads alot of people to slaughter, he kept pushing resource stocks while the cliff began, not a great way to build a fan base. Both vonage and burger king were profitable the first day as a day trade.

MasterCard 1Q profit surges 70 percent

Unread postby Cynus » Wed 02 May 2007, 19:01:26

Gee, I wonder why so many people are using their credit card?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070502/ap_ ... stercard_6

NEW YORK - MasterCard Inc., the world's second-biggest credit card franchise, on Wednesday reported favorable currency exchanges and stronger use of its brand overseas led to a record first-quarter profit.

The Purchase, New York-based company said profit for the first three months of the year rose to $214.9 million, or $1.57 per share, from $126.7 million, or 94 cents per share, in the year-ago period. Revenue climbed 24 percent to $915.1 million from $738.5 million.

Another canary. Gideon has it pegged - they make a LOT more money when people are late in paying their bills. This is an indicator that a LOT of people are getting severely hard up.

they also make a lot of money when people charge a lot of things regardless of being able to pay the bill and late payment.

Question: If the people who aren't paying their mortgages are charging things, how long will it take the CC company to turn of the CC?

This may be an omen...for record spending over the next 6-9months and then maybe they'll come out with Credit-Credit Cards with some type of adjustable rate spending spree interest only cash back incentive deal.
