$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Chaparral', 's')ome purebreds will survive and even prosper if they have the ability to perform a much needed task: think Rat-terriers or Daschunds for vermin control. My grandmother had a few dogs that did wonders for her garden by eliminating the rabbit and gopher populations.
I was thinking that some kind of rat-terrier type would be a good dog to have. We keep chickens and meat rabbits, so sometimes we have rat/mouse problems. Would be great to have a ratter around to deal with them. However I am a bit concerned about a dog killing the chickens and rabbits if it got half a chance.
This past weekend I slaughtered 7 rabbits. They will provide 7 meals for our family of 5. There was a reasonable amount of offcuts produced in that process. I was thinking to myself at the time that I could use the offcuts to feed a small dog for quite some time.
