Real crash?

I will miss leaving home without a weapon or two.

The internet would be pretty hard to maintain without relatively inexpensive energy. Hell, just keeping the undersea cables in order may become impossible. You never know, though.

Unlimited electricity, cheap central heating, cheap high quality clothing, all sorts of foreign products, internet, ability to travel, etc. etc.

But I will be grateful for every day I'm alive.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I') will NOT miss most of what parades these days as "music", though.

For the most part I agree with you. But there are a few masterpieces (classical and modern) I would love to be able to listen to for the rest of my life.

I will miss my toilet and of course hot/cold water on demand.

I will also miss UFC as hell...

NASCAR! WOOT! - j/k - even though I joke I wonder how much fuel is used by Nascar every year.

I'll miss Amazon.com and my Prime membership. I have 574 books on my wish list (which took forever to put together) and I'm afraid I'll never build the library I want before PO. If my house burned and I lost my books it'd be the most devastating thing that I could think of.

Every month when I get paid I allot $300 for books. It's like X-mas to grab stuff off the wish list and it arrives on your doorstep 2 days later. You just can't find books at the local book stores around here that are available on the Godsend that is Amazon. Furthermore could you imagine the looks you'd get special ordering books like:

The Humanure Handbook: A Guide to Composting Human Manure, Third Edition

Liquid Gold: The Lore and Logic of Using Urine to Grow Plants

Or what about The Foxfire books which I own and contain great information but the author Eliot Wigginton was convicted of dispicable acts with children. There are many ignorant people where I'm from who'd make the ridicilous argument that by buying his books I'm somehow condoning what he did. Which I do not.

And what about other books written from an "unpopular viewpoint" on topics such as spirituality, evolution or politics….

I don't always disagree with sheeple media but I do like to read opposing viewpoints no matter how looney I may think they are. To me there is no greater sin than making decisions/arguments based upon incomplete intelligence.

So in a since I'm also going to miss the anonymity of only Amazon, Uncle Sam and myself knowing what I'm reading.

I will miss hot water on demand, jacuzzis and the relative peace and security that exists, even in places like South LA at the present. I do NOT, i repeat: NOT look forward to having to leave the house armed.

If the crash ain't that bad, then I'll miss SCUBA diving all over the world and cheap air travel and my plans to summit a few more 6 & 7000 meter peaks.

I'll miss Rakhmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2. It's just one piece of music but I can't live without it. Saving the sheet music is no problem, but we must set up some sort of Peak Oil music society that can preserve the art of making instruments. We can't let this legacy pass. Peak or no Peak, pieces of music like the Piano Concerto No. 2 are the most glorious creation of mankind.
It's little solace, but I'm sure there will be some hillbillies around with banjos, mandolins and harmonicas. "Skip to My Lu," anyone?

I don't know how bad the crash is going to be, so I don't know what I'll be forced to do without.

Currently I'm very grateful for cheap electricity, food, clothes, plastic sh1t from China, petrol, cars etc. etc, and I'd miss any one of them.

For those worried about losing running hot water. Sort it out now while plastic hosing, water tanks, gutters, pumps are still relatively cheap. You can quite easily set up your own personal water system and water heater. That's if you don't live in an apartment that is.

Agreed! Music will never die, though. Mankind would make (and has made) music with sticks and stones. Here's one that I love. Too bad the first bit was cut off, but still a stellar performance. Sigh...

Agreed!

I just wish I could find more classical music... It's hard to find online and IRL. And yes, there are modern bands worth listening to. I'm lucky that one of my mates has a bizzarely mixed interest in music, it really has helped expose to me some artists I would never have heard of.

I don't listen to the radio anymore. Honestly.

I'll listen to talk radio occasionally, but music radio is crap. Same songs 50,000 times... I'll pass on that thanks. If I want to listen to something alot, I'll buy the CD. And it really doesn't change. I do hear radio occasionally - when I'm in a car, they'll often have the radio on, and as per, it usually sucks.

I agree with the previous posters about plumbing/hot water being the most missed thing.

I think after hot showers, my wife will miss sugar the most. after plumbing, I will miss music on demand the most.

Can you imagine medical procedures in the future? simple dental problems will cause hell on earth for people.

People are going to miss novacaine and sodium pentathol A LOT.

I wonder. Is there someway to homebrew ether?

You all sound like pampered sissies, my father when he was a boy did not have any hot water to bathe in, he was washed once aweek in a cold bath with a scrubbing brush by his mother.

I'll probably miss hearing the "what will you miss the most" threads.

I think what we'll miss will be something of a surprise.
Like one day suddenly realizing we haven't had soft toilet paper for a year.

What I don't think people should worry about so much is the travel. I love travel myself, but today to travel is so easy and cheap it is hardly any experience. Given that I am not a madmax doomer, I think that travel for the coming generation again will be exciting adventure, like for Phileas Fogg.

I don't think most of us will miss anything because a lot of us will be dead. A lot of the people on this forum may think they're prepared, but I think a lot of them will be in for a surprise after the crash. I bet at least 85% of us (myself included) will be dead within 5 years after the crash. Broke your leg and the bone is sticking through? Ew, it's starting to turn green and smell funny. What's that? You want a doctor to fix your leg? Have fun getting eaten by wolves. Got cancer? Kiss your ass goodbye! Got Pneumonia? You're history.Have diabetes? Need insulin? Nice knowin ya. And so on. Do you guys see where I'm going with this? The average life expectancy after the crash will be less than 35, I'm sure of it.

If I do manage to survive for a couple years post crash (highly unlikely), I will miss listening to music and heckling people on myspace and youtube, nothing else really. I plan on keeping a stock pile of rum and beer so I can get drunk and choke on my vomit. I will go out like a rockstar!

Good point.

you kind of backed up what i said though, Modern medical care
especially anaesthetics.

I've also decided recently to go to the liquor store and start stocking up on decent booze with each paycheck for both barter and getting wasted after the crash. I imagine there will be nobody to tell us not to grow marijuana during our short-ass lives either.

There will still be mixed martial arts competitions, but the quality of the fights may suffer. Professional fighters could no longer jet around the world to train and fight with the best. I guess they'd have to settle for the nearest strip mall karate dojo...
