$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', 'C')ome on, man, thats goofy. All cultures are built around fear. Ever heard of Death?
Way back in the late 1960's, I took Anthropology as an undergrad. It was required to fulfill a Humanities requirement. I don't remember much, but it's probably slogging around somewhere in my memory. But they did talk a lot about religions and taboos.
But a more recent idea is the idea of "Primitive Religion". A "Primitive Religionist" believes that Man's sins bring the wrath of a punishing God. There are many examples of this. Such as:
A. The Old Testament
B. Many environmentalists (Ecotastrophe is the result of man's excesses).
C. Some contrary investors. (ala Bill Bonner and the school of "ought")
D. Many fundamentalist Christian groups. I guess Muslim too, for that matter.
I'm not saying that any of the above is wrong. It's just a way of looking at things, and it may well be right in the long run.
But if you look at the achievements of cultures, what is usually remembered is art, creativity, and ideas. And that stuff is man made, and it is generally positive and optimistic. But this realm also contains a lot of BS and wishfull thinking.
