My remark was aimed at the Michael Moore notion that part of the corruption of American Society is the culture of fear promulgated by profit seeking entertainment conglomerates who stoke the fears beyond what is normal. I would argue the conglomerates are giving people what they want and base it on ratings. Fear in society is as old as Death and the unfortunate fore-knowledge of it, and even older really if you think about it.

But the PO issue shook a lot of us up! Well, at least it shook me up.

There's more than a few people who think that we are going down the same road as the 1970's. Only this time, they think that it's the 1970's turbocharged. I happen to be one of them.

I remember the 1970's. It started out with muscle cars, and ended up as Green as can be.

So in terms of PO, it's probably rational and prudent to get "Green" and prepare for a bad outcome. In my opinion, anybody who doesn't is asking for big trouble.

But if we get locked into the "primitive religion" paradigm; then we risk the possibility that we may be just plain wrong.

There may be a solution out there that we just don't see; or can't see because of our beliefs. Between solar, wind, coal, nuclear, and conservation; a lot of energy can be generated and saved.

There is also the possibility of new innovation. Although I will be the first to admit that real innovation is a rare thing; it is a possibility. I just hope that if something new happens, it is USA born and bred.

I guess what I am trying to say is that the Dark Ages don't have to happen. The Dark Age mindset can be a self-fufilling prophecy. I think it's important to approach PO with rational concern and worry, but with an urgent sense of necessary innovation.

I'm pinning my hopes on carbon nanofibers. Imagine an SUV that get 200-300 miles per gallon because its made from material ten time stronger that steel and only weighs a tiny fraction of steel. God bless American ingenuity. Hey guest, get yourself a persona and register.
