The principle of attraction does work because you're essentially adjusting your eyes/senses to pick up what was always there - I used to use it when I was a little kid shell collector - by having in mind what the shells looked like and keeping my eyes on the beach, I tended to find more than other kids - I was more interested in shells than them, I should say.
