The Government is restricting free speech!

Unread postby Eli » Tue 06 Mar 2007, 23:08:53

The government has just passed a law making it illegal to film acts of violence by anyone other than registered journalists.

The fine is nearly 100,000 dollars and can result in prison time.

That means that the police could be using deadly force putting down a riot and if you film it and publish it they can lock you up if you are not licensed by the them.

We all need to fight this action now!

Man thank goodness I don't live in France, but seriously WTF?

That is messed up stuff and all kinds of bad.

It is easier to enslave a people that wish to remain free then it is to free a people who wish to remain enslaved.

Bills of this nature certainly are floating around congress... it's only a matter of time and circumstances before they go through I'm afraid. :(

If and when they try to do something like that in the US that is the day I start stocking up on ammo.

I just find that law poisonous.

We already have a journalist rotting in prison because he filmed some violence, sure it's officially because he won'ty release the film, but what it comes down to is they didn't want him filming the violence in the first place. Name of the guy is Josh Wolf, I think?

This will also have the effect of criminalizing any store owner whose video system films a robbery committed with a weapon, and any citizen who happens to be an eyewitness to a crime and films it for evidence.

However, when I read the phrase "happy slapping," I nearly threw up. For those who didn't click the link, this refers to thugs attacking random strangers and having their friends film it for amusement.

But there is a way to deal with "happy slapping," and that's to charge both the thug and the accomplice with a conspiracy and a premeditation enhancement, each of which should be good for another five years in the pen, with the proviso that the accomplice who does the filming can get off the hook entirely by turning state's evidence against the perpetrator of the assault & battery. This sets up a clear "prisoner's dilemma" type of situation, by providing a strong incentive for the accomplice to defect on the thug.

The other nasty bit in that article was the item about government certification of websites as approved news sources. All I can say is, if they ever try that in the good ol' USA, there'll be so many instant lawsuits that the entire court system will be tied up for as long as it takes to ovrturn it, and if that doesn't work, then yes, there will be a revolution.

You greatly disappointed me when you failed to respond to my arguments in the psychology thread about forced sterilization.

Plants Josh Wolf is BS, why does the USA always have to be just as evil if not worse than any other place?

Wolf has video evidence of a police officer who was seriously injured at a G8 protest rally held by a group of Bay Area anarchists. A grand jury was convened and he was ordered to hand over the tape, he refused.

But some how in your world that is just as bad as making it illegal to tape the protest in the first place.

Regarding Josh wolf , it's funny how the perspective changes depending on which side of the fence you sit on.
