New Poll: Energy Shortages

Postby pup55 » Wed 15 Dec 2004, 21:34:19

With our 1267 registered users, plus frequent unregistered visitors from all around the world, we should be able to monitor street-level energy problems as (or if) they occur.

Entries can include home or work supply issues, or if you personally notice shortages of materials or energy in your area even if you are not personally affected.

p.s. I am inclined not to allow news reports of shortages, only those you personally experience. The local news in the US typically blows this sort of thing totally out of proportion, therefore more reliable if you rely on your personal experience rather than rumor or some doom and gloom 10:00 news report.

Also, feel free to make a post to explain and tell your story, Especially note location and any special circumstances.

I will run this poll periodically.....

I live in Memphis, Tennessee, USA, and I have personally observed a couple of food shortages; tomatoes are now very expensive, and are being left off salad menus in restaurants. There is a shortage due to bad growing conditions, I believe. I think the same is true for pecans, which are used a lot in the South, and are much in demand at Christmastime.

I hope this poll includes food shortages.

Hey I live in Canada, there are no shortages here, everything is just expensive as hell instead. That is nothing new I might add.

Here in Japan, we have a shortage of vegetables. Too many typhoons this year destroyed the fields too many times. Except that, none. I guess it is too early to expect a shortage in oil products. Not now, but later 8)

Laurasia, the media has assured us that the tomato shortage is only temporary...and if the media says it, it MUST be so, right?

I agree that this poll should've included "none" as an option. Cuz I haven't had any...yet.

Please Help us, Admin, and edit a "none" button into the poll!

Actually, by tracking views, we can get stats on how many people viewed the poll and chose not to answer.

Hershey's is raising its candy prices, citing higher fuel, packaging, and employee benefit costs. Mars is doing the same thing.

I am sure you have heard of the ugly hybrid tomato guy? He can't get a permit to market his tomato because the growers deem them to ugly to sell.. [smilie=new_tomato.gif]

Energy shortages happened in Northern Sarawak at 5 January 2005. Ironically , oil towns like Miri and Bintulu has diesel shortage. There are no reported case of petrol shortage. For your information, diesel price here is approximately USD 0.83 per US gallon.

It appears on the first page.

Diesel Shortage in Northern Sarawak
Bus services grounded in Miri, long queues in Bintulu

Miri-Shortage of diesel forced several buses plying the town to stop operating yesterday.

Meanwhile in Bintulu, the shortage of diesel at petrol kiosks forced hundereds of motorists to queue for hours yesterday.

According to a lorry driver, they were compelled to wait at the petrol kiosks as early as 5 am for the tankers from Petronas to supply diesel..

Sigh, dieoff and Olduvai is just around the corner. Gogota asked me to plan for reality.

None here, but the local power company has informed us that we will have a 30% increase in the natural gas compnonent of out monthly bills effective this month.

That should be enough to prevent shortages for awhile.

Although it's not exactly a shortage, all of the gas heaters in Northern Utah have to be rejetted because the gas company has started piping coal feild methane.

Dirty hands and empty pockets
Who? You!

No shortages here yet.

Although one of our national treasures is in short supply due to a fire at the factory where they produce it.
