Smarter than USA.

Unread postby Jakob » Sat 19 Jun 2004, 09:54:00

Since the seventies the leaders of Sweden have been really smart much smarter than Americans! Let me explain!

Since the crash we actually have decreased our oil consumption with 50% ! How we did it? For example, In the seventies our steel factories was almost shut down because of the crisis, but instead they made less steel - special steel consuming much less energy, exporting +80% abroad. And well we kind of imported the normal steel… 80%!

NOW TELL ME PLEASE LORD WHAT REALLY HAVE CHANGED HERE? The truth is that much of our industry that actually produce anything, the industry who makes atoms move according to our wishes – the industry that feeds us, is truly and extraordinary dependent on cheep energy. It’s inevitable our economy must adjust according to the quality of our energy system.

The price of electricity in Sweden is thirteen times higher than the one for oil. And that’s no way expensive! I hope I have made clear that Europe’s situation is far away from expressions like “better of” We are sitting in the same boat folks, we buy and sell things to each other and we have become dependent on it.

Smart Swedes?

Unread postby pup55 » Mon 13 Dec 2004, 14:39:11

I don't think Swedes are, on the whole, any "smarter" than Americans. There is nothing in the water over here that makes us stupid (that we are aware of).

If you take some Swedish babies and bring them over here and feed them a diet high in sugar and fat, put them in day care and minimize parental exposure, make them watch thousands of hours of TV, and let them vegetate in the American school system for 16 years, they will be just as stupid as the rest of the Americans.

As far as the leadership is concerned, being smart has not worked in your favor as far as becoming a leader in America since about 1980. Much better to be tall, good looking, and able to raise money from wealthy contributors. This goes for State and Local leaders, as well as national.

Also, we have just had a 9-month, $1 billion dollar advertising campaign in the US that says that the "other guy" running for government office is not competent, and we will be worse off if he gets elected. The result is that no matter who wins our elections, at least half the voters, plus all of the people who did not vote, will have no confidence in the winner. That way, any decision that is made, especially if it is a little bit creative, or forces people to change their behavior will have minimal popular support. This has also trickled down to our State and Local leaders.

Also, we are carrying about the bottom third of the population on our backs at a given moment: inner city types, hip hoppers, hillbillies, etc. whose culture is so far removed from making steel or anything else that they have no clue whatsoever what is going on anywhere outside their six-city-block area, and spend most of their time reproducing, doing violence to each other, and doing other completely unproductive non-metallurgical activities which do nothing except shorten their life expenctancy and ensure another generation that accomplishes even less than they did.

So, given all this, it's surprising we are able to even put together a decent army. At the moment, despite outnumbering Iraq 15-1 in population, they are fighting us about even on their own ground, so evidently, we are not even really able to do a good job at that. We cannot defend our southern border, we cannot keep illegal drugs from crossing any of the borders of the country, and we also cannot defend our own infrastructure, including two of the three tallest buildings in the country, from attack at a given moment.

Still, there is hope. Maybe we can import some engineers and teachers from Sweden and catch up within a few years.

p.s. Just in case it comes up, no I do not hate America, I like it a lot, just hate it when we do things stupidly. Also, the "typical American" has a reasonable amount of common sense, and if you can get to him or her to pay attention long enough, typically they will make decent decisions, and agree with somebody organizing the sort of projects you are talking about to get out of a little bit of trouble. The question is, should it be the American government, in whom we have minimal confidence, or somebody else? Eventually, if things get serious enough, we still have the capacity to fix our problems we have and move forward. It has to get pretty serious, though, before we will focus this incredible creative energy.

It is evidently not serious enough yet on the issue of steel, or oil, for that matter.

Sweden didn't seem to mind all that cold-rolled Detroit steel in WWII though...
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

And with all their developments, the Swedes have yet to master the art of composing simple sentences........

I can go on and on about how lovely Sweden and the Swedish girls are, as I go there every year for fishing. But one of the few things that annoys me about you Swedes is that you really think that you have the best system in the world. I can give some examples why you have not, but then those same examples are proof for you that the system is great. Can I say "systembolag" (state monopoly liqueur shops)?

You seem to be implying the US doesn't have any specialty alloy makers. Here's one of many:
Carpenter Technology Corporation

The real problem is that these specialty markets, while very profitable, are very small. The big money used to be in making I beams and such. Living next to Bethlehem, PA, I'm very familliar with these issues. A lot of the steel in the buildings of New York City were made by this company:
Bethlehem Steel Corporation

If the Swedes are so smart, then why are there so many dumb-blond jokes out there?

Dumb blonde jokes is just another example of American propaganda aimed at making them feel better about themselves.

And the question is not how smart are the Swedes, but how dumb are the Americans. Proof? George Bush re-elected... I rest my case!

Yes, we canucks love hockey, a lot of us like basket ball too which is why we invented it. I agree with the poster who said that if you ate a bad diet and sit infront of a tv for most of your life, ever read any news except the official spin from your own country you'll get stupid.

It doesn't matter which country you live in. stupid people can still choose to listen to smart people and enhance their own intelligence, or they can choose to remain stupid (fine, let them die off).

I appreciate the smart people I've been reading on here (even though the majority are american and I am usually pretty anti-american) . some people need to change their perspecives more than they need to change their socks. if you see what I'm getting at.
