$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Tyler_JC', 'A') republic often bows to the will of its people. Thus, we get what we voted for.
The Dems ran on a platform of stem cell research, ethics reform, minimum wage hikes, and education.
The American people mostly agree with the Democrats on those issues.
Both the Democratic Party and the American People will be pleased to see those new bills get passed.

You refer to a republic, yet you describe a democracy.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Gideon', 'I') think about 50% of kids going to college today shouldn't go at all. If your degree is in journalism, psychology, sociology, sports, history, polysci, and so on, then do the country a favor and go get a job - you're just wasting time and money and putting off growing up.

whats inherently wrong social science degrees?

Good grief , is it over? did it end? has EJ left the building?
and people talk about my rants whoa.....

Far out dude - now you want to make pot equal with alcohol so that tells me that you have made this judgement without learning the truth about pot first.
And since some of us including L.E.A.P thats "law enforcement against prohibition" of all drugs I might add is well aware of the fact that people who want the hard drugs are getting them anyways and by making them illegal we are only creating a criminal market $$$ and alot of the drugs are big pharma drugs like oxycontin then that part of your whatever you want to call it is very flawed as well.

I wont get into the rest as I am still quite dizzy from all of the circular logic.
It is easier to enslave a people that wish to remain free then it is to free a people who wish to remain enslaved.

Politically: Red / Blue or Something Else?

Unread postby cynicalheretic » Mon 19 Feb 2007, 02:45:56

Here is a great test I found online, has all sort of different results to really tell you were you stand politically: http://typology.people-press.org/typology/

I always called myself liberal, though I was never sure. Now I am

Red/Blue left/right have no real meaning any more in the US. That's on purpose too.

The Randists have come up with a more useful scale, Individualist vs. Statist. But even that makes little sense in the eyes of Nature. Hunter-gatherer societies are notoriously non-coercive, except there are all kinds of things one MUST or MUST NOT do, for instance an Aboriginal boy MUST go on his walkabout, and MUST NOT look at girls until he's done that. Is it Statist that these rules must be followed? Is it Individualist that Aborigines traditionally work few hours, dance 'n' sing when they darned well feel like, and have little in the way of hierarchy?

I feel pretty Liberal these days, but isn't part of being Liberal being in favor of things like social security programs, food purity laws, vehicle pollution and safety standards, etc?

You could argue that at least Liberals will be for Statist things that make sense, food purity and environmental laws make sense for health. While "Red" laws like ones against puffing a little pot, or marrying your gay partner, seem to have religious backing but not any real proven impact on the betterment of health or society.

But a Red person could say that their laws are indeed for the betterment of health and society, since God's coming and gayness will get us all punished like in the Bible, and environmental laws are nonsense since we were given Dominion over the earth.....

So is red/blue in the US really another name for religious/nonreligious?

Take drug use. Europe, a more Liberal place, tends to treat it as a health problem to be managed. The US treats it as a sin to be punished - a good contrast of blue vs. red thought.

Liberal/Conservative as it's practiced in the US makes no sense, the Randist Statist/Individualist axis makes no sense, anyone know of any that might work in describing reality?

OK I took the test and I'm a Disaffected.

This test more likely than not is a "feeler" to try to figure out what the "mood in the ranks" is and shows they have no idea - the class divide is huge in the US and it's very hard for the top quintile, who run things, to have any idea.

Read Orwell's writings on his own experiences with classism and you'll get an idea of what we're progressing toward.

However, being a Disaffected is probably the best camouflage I could have so I'll :)

I took it, and it says I'm a liberal.

This caught my eye

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Typology Test', '
')Liberals are second only to Enterprisers in following news about government and public affairs most of the time (60%). Liberals’ use of the internet to get news is the highest among all groups (37%).

I think I would have come out as liberal except I told the truth. I did vote for Bush in 04 because Kerry scared me even more. I do think the gov't does not know best. I do have pessimism about my own financial situation because I'm a realist, I think most people have been drinking the joy-juice when they think about their finances, something like 50% of the people in the US think they're in the top fifth. I'd have come out as liberal if I were a lot more self-satisfied and smug.

I said I voted for dubya in o4 which I did (I'm so sorry) but it still said I was a liberal, so maybe it was more than that? Anyway, always knew I was and shall always remain a true blue bleedin heart lib who thinks the all time greatest prez was FDR. ;)

I guess somebody should dig the quandrant test thread out of the database and give it a bump.

I can't even remember the keywords to search or I would do it.
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.
It's not hard to do.

Political compass. This is a much better test than the red/blue thing here.

Test wasn't as good as I hoped. It said I was liberal. I knew that already. The compass better. It gives you a two dimensional look at where you stand politically.
