5 More solutions for American Problems-

Unread postby Kylon » Fri 12 Jan 2007, 18:09:44

Ideas by Kylon!

I've already said some things about this in my "5 ways to revitalize the United States" and now I'm going to go on, and post more ideas.

NOTE: Energy, economy, the Iraq war, and global warming were covered in that thread.

6. We focus on education of our citizens- We create a massive education program that focuses on educating citizens, but only in the areas where there are actual job demands, and where they can be employed.

Everyone would get free college up to four years, but only in certain areas.

There are a great many number of actors in the lower tiers because there are so many people who want to be actors. Obviously this wouldn't subsidized past high school.

However, for engineering, sciences, business, teaching, medicine, and industrial skilled labor jobs such as welding or electricians, there would be money to be used to subsidize education in mass for college.

This would provide businesses with a larger pool of skilled labor, in areas that could actually make the country, and the individuals money.

I would also decrease the amount of time that has to be spent on English and literature, so that more of it's technical writing and grammar in highschool.

That way instead of needing 4 English credits, you'd only need 2.5. Furthermore, I'd increase the amount of science/maths in school, so that we'de have a better education.

In order to get past alot of the "oh well that's sexist! You can't do that!", I'd simply decrease the amount of credits alotted for sports. This way the value of sports (which is dominated by males) and the value of English (which is dominated by females) would both go down, even though the amount of education in sciences/maths (dominated by males) would go up. Everything would still be "equal", even though the least intelligent students would end up getting a worse grade.

7.

We have "values" teachers elected by parents. Instead of having teachers hired by the school directly, or hired by the super intendent and what not, we have the teacher who teaches the children of parents, elected by parents. This way teachers who teach certain politically correct teachings wouldn't be brainwashing students with their garbage and forcing it down their throat. Those teachers would be controlled by the parents, which means if you have a multiculuralist who hates Christianity, then that teacher can be fired for bashing religion because that teacher is elected.

Also, if there were enough teachers who wanted a specific type of values teacher (such as a teacher of Christian religion) then they could vote for and get a values teacher of that sort put in.

8.

We vaccinate children against narcotics but legalize illegal drugs and pardon all people who are simply criminals by virtue of drug use- We vaccinate children against narcotics such as Heroine, but legalize the drugs.

Vaccinating children against drugs works. All it requires is conjugating a viral protein to whatever drug you want to innoculate the child against. The end result is the body's immune system recognizes the drug as a disease and creates an appropriate antibody.

By doing this, we could reduce the amount of people in prison, weaken/destroy the mob, eliminate gang many gang wars, and not ruining countless innocent people's lives.

I would also make it where drugs you need by prescription would be over the counter, so long as your 21 or older.

9.

Mercenary buildup- I would create a huge mercenary army, and then have most of our own troops only act as defense or in an administrative fashion. This way some third worlder guy who only makes 1 dollar a day, can make 50-100 dollars a day, which boost up the economy of his homeland (helping third worlders) and it reduces the cost to our military, especially in lives.

Our military would primarily act as adiminstrators to this military,
and as a defense force for our nation. We let someone else do the dirty work for one tenth the cost!

10.

Modifying the banking system- We decrease tax cuts for the wealthy, and the large corporations, while making it easier to get a loan, so long as the loan is going to be spent inside the United States, and the money is spent on some industry we need/want to grow.

If we wanted to encourage people to get into the energy industry, instead of making tax cuts which only help you if you've got large/are making large sums of money, we provide very low interest loans.

This way people borrow money, invest it in an industry you want to grow in your country, and then if they succeed they make lots of money.

This way if you developed a better form of economical solar energy or something, you could get a really large loan, and make a large sum of money off of it, rather than just being rewarded for pretending to do research for something.

You only make money off of the research if you get results.

For things that you can't make money off of concievably, you provide things like the X prize, so that people who succeed in doing this, end up getting a big reward.

You could also have second place prizes, and third place prizes.

This would help medium/small businesses become very powerful/profitable if they were innovative.

Big businesses don't like being innovative as it changes the status quo, which means losing alot of money they've already got invested in things.

If you want to brainwash your kids with the Jebus crapola, do it at home. Keep your superstitions out of our schools.

Thank you very much.

Yo dood eye don't no bout u but eye'd wanna c kids lern engrish still gooder.....

...because even with the existing 4 credits, a good percentage seem to be unable to form complete sentences. I shudder to think what would happen with even less potential for a solid understanding of the language.

Also, without proper communication skills, they may be highly competent from a technology perspective, but if they cannot communicate their knowledge...is it a good tradeoff?

A response to Lokutus-

We would allow the teachers to teach whichever values the parents wanted them to teach. If the teachers are going to be raising the children, and teaching them values, the parents at least should have a say in what values the child learns.

A response to dbruning-

Much of what's taught in English, is literature. Much of it is literature about some poor black guy, latino, or woman. Most white guys don't like having multicultural stuff shoved down our throats. It doesn't help us, turns us off to education, and waste our time.

If your black, latino, or a woman, you can read all that stuff if you want. You can take a Lit class. That's where all that stuff would be relocated.

However, for those of us who derive no benefit, and who don't like people (teachers) trying to force their views on us, the literature taught serves little purpose.

If we focused instead on grammar and communication skills (instead of literature) in the first two and a half English credits, then our children would have very effective communication skills, rather than the mess we have now.

This is all a great way to further dumb down America. In fact it would accelerate our decline as a nation.

BTW, Idiacracy is now out on DVD.

How would you like it if schools taught nothing but Islamic fanaticism Lokutus?

You'd want the option to have your kid (if you had kids) to be able to be educated in a secular ideology.

Wouldn't you?

Number 6:

Finally someone gets it!

Boosting our pool of educated workers is the only real solution to America's problems.

If our students were number 1 in math instead of number 20, just think of the economic and cultural benefits.

Heck, people might actually understand exponential growth!

Number 7:

The only problem I see with this is that schools in Kansas would ban evolution. Personally, I'd rather have secularism and non-politicalization of the classroom. You can believe whatever you want, but you shouldn't teach history or science through your own lense. Stick to the material and let the students make up their own minds.

Number 8:

I agree with you for the most part.

But we have to maintain the ban on heroine, crystal meth, and crack. The health/societal effects are simply too horrific.

On the other hand, marijuana, cocaine, and hashish are natural products, so make them legal. We can punish people who commit crimes while on drugs, but there's no need to lock them up simply for lighting up.

As for the vaccinations, sounds cool, but I don't understand the science behind it. Got a link?

Number 9:

I guess I agree that we need to cut back on military spending but do we really want to rely on soldiers of fortune for our defense?

I'm not prepared to hand military weapons over to those kinds of people right now.

Number 10:

I have to disagree with you.

Taxing corporations is illogical and extremely harmful.

Tax the very wealthy all you want, but taxing Ford only makes them more inclined to move their operations overseas. Also, it leads to inflation because corporations are forced to raise prices to cover the higher taxes.

Moreover, corporations are already taxed indirectly. Sales taxes, dividend/capital gains taxes, property taxes, state/local taxes, etc. Why increase the federal taxload?

I've never been a big fan of the idea of taxing businesses.

It's easy for a company to move overseas, but American citizens tend to stay here regardless of the tax situation.

Want to increase Federal revenue? Start with that ridiculous mortgage interest deduction. Why are we subsidizing California millionaires at the cost of poor southern/midwestern renters??

I agree with you on Mortgage, we should have much higher interest rates when it comes to getting loans for purchasing consumer goods.

Number 7:

The reason why I'm interested in parents having the ability to choose the values of their children is simply because I think the parents should be able to choose the values taught to their children.

This would be in one specific class, an ethics class,

The curriculum concerning evolution, sex ed, ect... would be left alone as they would be outside that ethics class.

There would also be an ethics class that would be provided by the state for those students who couldn't/wouldn't take ethics in other classes. Or the ethics class could be optional.

This is in order to try and eliminate some of the moral degradation that our society is facing, without infringing on the liberties of it's citizens.

This would simply be an ethics class put in place so that ethics could be taught by the schools, but the parents would have tremendous control over what ethics their children learned.

Number 8:

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medical ... ewsid=9529

Innoculating someone against illegal drugs can be done with just about anything to my knowledge, with the exception of innoculating against natural occuring chemicals in the body (otherwise you'd block out part of your bodies functions).

This is just one example of a vaccine being developed.

Number 9:

That's why soldiers would act as administrators, they would basically keep the soldiers of fortune in check to make sure they didn't do anything criminal.

The unfortunate fact is, we're going to be in Iraq for a long time, and we might as well reduce the cost to our military via soldiers of fortune.

Soldiers of fortune are extremely effective and useful, if applied correctly. They are good as front line soldiers, and bottom level soldiers. As long as you can control them, there is really no reason not to use them.

Number 10:

I agree in some respects, maybe the taxes on large corporations shouldn't be increased that much, but the loans for the small businesses and medium businesses if they succeed at creating an effective technology that would produce lots of resources shouldn't be implemented.

We should use our banking system, as well as our tax system, to provide incentives.

Only providing tax cuts only provides incentives to those who can get big tax cuts and save alot of money. If your a small business, you don't earn a huge sum of money, and you may just be breaking even, which means you don't pay hardly any taxes.

It's the small businesses and medium size businesses that do most of the innovation, as large businesses don't like change because change means they have to regear all of their infrastructure, which cost money. It also brings uncertainty, and most of the high ups in large companies are living the good life, so why shake the boat?

Also, if we provided loans like that, if a small business or medium size business did invent something brilliant, they could build lots of factories and implement the solution in mass to provide it's benefits to society.

We could cut the aggregate demand caused by these low interest loans by cutting pork barrel projects, and by raising the interest on loans for consumer goods and real estate.

We could also make it where in order to make that politically feasible (as Senators and Representatives would want to bring back something to their state to say "hey, look what I did for you! Vote for me!") we could make the loans state specific, specific amounts of money can be borrowed, and spent within a certain state.

It's not the most practical system, but it may allow us to by-pass the pork barrel problem, and might possibly work in the political reality.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Kylon', 'I')'d simply decrease the amount of credits alotted for sports. How about changing the emphasis away from sports to general health and wellbeing? It would provide an excellent time to help teens figure out how to eat a healthy diet (along with other things) and thus reduce consumption of resources and lower medical expenses in the long run.

Not a bad idea that! Teach our kids to be suicide bombers.

Re. Kylon's proposals:

Immunizing people against the effects of heroin also means that a very large class of analgesics will no longer work for them: everything from Tylenol3 (codiene) all the way to morphine, fentanyl, and so on. Drugs that are essential in the emergency room and the operating room. Thus, this proposal is absurd and not well thought-out.

Allowing unlimited purchase of prescription meds over the counter only assures that people will take antibiotics like jelly beans for every little sniffle, thereby pushing the evolution of resistant bugs even further and faster. Once again, a proposal that's absurd and not well thought-out.

Both of the above are based on hard science and unarguable facts.

Teaching "values" in the schools only leads to greater parental irresponsibility. Values must be taught at home, and religious values also taught in church. If parents don't care enough to teach their kids about values and take 'em to church, they have no right or business (and realistically probably no interest or competence) to elect teachers to do that job for 'em. If someone on the left was proposing anything quite as stupid, we'd all be screaming about communist erosion of the role of parents in their childrens' lives.

Aside from which, teaching religious values in school, even as an elective, violates the Constitutional right to freedom of religion and the principle of separation between church and state.

Sorry Kylon, three strikes, back to the dugout. Do your research next time.
