$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PolestaR', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('jupiters_release', 'P')olestar,

I agree with you on how ugly TSHTF will be, but do you really wanna live in isolation?

I don't want to live in isolation, but I guess living with 20-30 people would be isolating to some. It's best to live that way until most people are dead I feel.

Don't know where you're at but I'm in Brooklyn NY and my only chances would be to not leave my 6-unit apt building. I've well versed my neighbors on peak oil LOL, even though they've yet to stock up on water/food.
The city's been advertising on the subways and in mailings over emergency evacuation plans, many a fool will fall for that. I'm gonna have 2nd row seats to the meltdown, 1st row would be Manhattan. 8)

Turtle, why so soon? Haven't you heard about the upcoming mini-glut of more oil being produced in the Gulf of Mexico, the Caspian Sea region, the ME, off the west coast of Africa, etc that should be keeping the world well supplied over the next several years. I think the peak production of all liquid fuels will come on the order of 2015. Then there will be coal and nuclear to waste.

See you in the woods.

I am ready to cope with that, maybe even thrive with that.

What about FEMA? Aren't they going to bring us mobile homes and generators and lots of bottled water?

I am not looking for them, but if they happen to parachute a pallet load of supplies onto my farm by mistake, I won't call them to come pick it up.

after all, I wouldn't want them to waste energy
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

The 2015 date is at variance with a number of estimates.

A significant number of credible sources predict a pre-2010 date. See table 1, page 2 of the linked reference.

Because peak oil is not the only thing coming down the pike, nor the scariest. 8O

Personally, I'd say it's the triple whammy of PO, climate change (which I feel is going to hit a lot harder than people think, and maybe a lot sooner as well), and financial meltdown of the global default currency that is going to mess everyone up.

Ironically, it's the PO issues (and everyone turning to vast amounts of coal we still have to burn), that will strengthen the climate issues until we have a planet that has a hugely reduced carrying capacity.

Having said that, what do you consider the be the heavy things approaching....if it's not something I'm already aware of, at least it's a Monday....my day's already sucking hehehe.

The problem is that until the cheap energy runs out every "major problem" we face can be solved (except a few like global warming etc). Us doomers need peak oil to hit.. as stage 1. This ensures that everyday we will be in a position worse than the last, and that no rebuilding will occur over any lengthy period in the future.

Peak oil is at the base of a stack of cards.. we need to wedge it lose before the rest can come down. Any recession before peak oil will be a boom before long, any war before it, will not be the last. You get the idea.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'B')ecause peak oil is not the only thing coming down the pike, nor the scariest.

My reason for not posting here in months (though I view the site several times per week). I still pay attention to peak oil, and all our resource depletions and distructions and prepare personally for the longterm changes.

IMO the collapse of the US (oil) dollar and western leaders preparations for this New World Order (including loss of constitutional freedoms, the Amero, etc.) is what I am paying most attention to these days as effects will be immediate. As well, these times have so stressed the consensus trance (the MSM is the neo-Liberal project?) that my new quest for understanding involves attempting to understand the power plays and connections of the behind the scenes groups that really run the game called Western Civilization.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Loki', 'S')ince you've decided not to post here anymore, can you please delete that obnoxious pic of yourself. It comes up on the "Peakoil.com is You!" thing on the sidebar at least once a day. It annoys the hell out of me.

I removed the picture from the thread, as requested. However, I don't think I have control over whether a copy of it appears on the sidebar. That's up to the admins, I believe.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('TheTurtle', '
')Hey! That's exactly how I feel. :-D

That's one heck of a post turtle and I'd like to add to it.

I think it takes courage to have the intellectual honesty of the realistic possibility of TSHF.

It takes more courage to pull ourselves up from a state of self pity and say I will make the sacrifices for me to take care of my own.

Finally, I think it is after we reach the pinnacle of awareness and preparation we evolve to a state that is ready to show hope to others. Not only can I overcome but I can smile as I endure. You can't save everyone. I'll be honest, I don't want to own 2000 rounds of ammo just because I don't think I could live with the body count once I had shot every round. I value life more. I value life enough to help a few others, not everyone, but someone.

Don't just kick ass, kick ass with style, humanity, and a devil may care grin.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Shannymara', 'H')ey, Turtle and Mule, you guys have been quite an inspiration to me the past couple of days, and I thank you for it.

Hmmm? I'm not sure what I wrote that you found inspirational, but you're certainly welcome. I'm glad that you're inspired. :)

Since a few people have come out of the woodwork to post in this thread, it would seem the doomers havent left, merely hibernated lurking until the time was right to post again.

Incidentally to those who think that reverting to a hunter gatherer state is the way to go, I must remind them that hunter gatherers always fall before the agricultural man, even before fossil fuels, and that the agricultural man always fall before the industrial man. It may be industrial man is falling from grace right now, but agricultural man is still kicking.

At any rate most arguing here is fruitless, as its really hard to convince someone about the future when its quite clear no-one really has a good idea of whats going to happen, or when. Because those guys at ASPO can certainly make good predictions based on data, but when the data is circumspect(Does SA give any reliable info about their reserves) how accurate can you be? Or when consumption rates can be erratic in economic downturns? or who knows how smart investment in say Iran's fields may yield more production for longer?

I find that after reading about peak oil, eventually you will come up to full speed on the situation, and then its kinda boring to keep going over it. I'm not there yet, but eventually I will be. In the meantime all we can do is watch the headlines roll in and carry on in the meantime.

Incidentally I just noticed RGR got 'permanently banned' What did he do, aside from being difficult to argue with?

This doomer hasn't been around the forum much the last few months. Been too busy moving out to the country and getting my plans in place. Really busy.
