Why is this even interesting? Were there any people in the country that thought Bolton would get a confirmation vote after being given a recess appointment?

Its good material for the press I suppose...

The real question is whether Bush goes with a gentler nominee for his last two years. Do a bad cop then good cop routine for the UN; could help to make some still relatively extreme positions seem much less harsh. Wonder if any (R) ex-governors or Senators might fit the bill....

Or talk show hosts...

One might opine that at least talk show hosts were thinking about current affairs.

Bush is under the harsh advisement of a cadre of right-wing religious zealots from the end-days apocalyptic cult ie pastors John Hagee and Tim Lahaye.

These people see the Iraq debacle as a testing by Jehovah which must be overcome by unbending faith in god and an iron will. They also see the present Iraq situation as part of a predicted course of events that will lead first to Armageddon and then the return of Jesus. Faith in Jehovah and an iron will are the prescribed qualities for the great American Christian leader.

It is not known if Bush has completely bought into the "end times" cult....but it is fairly sure that he relates to the idea that great disasters are not mistakes to be learned from and avoided in the future- but as tests of faith in god and the American way.

The concept of a kinder and gentler UN nominee are foreign to Bush- as are the subleties of "good cop/bad cop" strategies.

Decrypting The Appointment Of John Bolton

So perhaps the dominant wing of the Deep State is finally willing to cut a deal with Trump. To many observers, the appointment of John Bolton as national security advisor is the functional equivalent of appointing the Anti-Christ--or maybe worse. Indeed, these observers would, when comparing the two, find grudging favor with the Anti-Christ. Bolton is a founding member of the neoliberal, neoconservative, neo-colonial interventionist Globalist wing of the Deep State. The antipathy he inspires is partly due to the enjoyment he takes in wielding power. (Note that the Anti-Christ is not a victim--he enjoys being the Anti-Christ.) This wing of the Deep State, unquestionably in charge until the election of Donald Trump, finds Trump, well, interesting. Trump can congratulate Vladdy Putin on his shoo-in re-election one day and eject a bunch of Russian diplomats the next. This sort of non-linear, non-ideologically pure "policy"
