$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('AgentR', '
')The real question is whether Bush goes with a gentler nominee for his last two years. Do a bad cop then good cop routine for the UN; could help to make some still relatively extreme positions seem much less harsh.
Bush is under the harsh advisement of a cadre of right-wing religious zealots from the end-days apocalyptic cult ie pastors John Hagee and Tim Lahaye.
These people see the Iraq debacle as a testing by Jehovah which must be overcome by unbending faith in god and an iron will. They also see the present Iraq situation as part of a predicted course of events that will lead first to Armageddon and then the return of Jesus. Faith in Jehovah and an iron will are the prescribed qualities for the great American Christian leader.
It is not known if Bush has completely bought into the "end times" cult....but it is fairly sure that he relates to the idea that great disasters are not mistakes to be learned from and avoided in the future- but as tests of faith in god and the American way.
The concept of a kinder and gentler UN nominee are foreign to Bush- as are the subleties of "good cop/bad cop" strategies.
