me too. advertising is the snake-in-the-grass of the entertainment world. it's why America shops so much. I like being able to get movies in the mail and watch them on my computer. at least there are no coca cola advertisements such as what you see if you go to the movies these days. I hate advertisements. if I hear them on the radio I turn those off too.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('fossil_fuel', '&')lt;rant on>

"it's in a great school district, our kids will be going to school soon, think of the children". the real estate agent chimes in helpfully with "you can do this" and other "supportive" comments. finally, he gives into his wife's manipulation and agrees to buy the house.
<rant off>

If some salesman or real estate agent tried to hard sell the upsell to my wife (and they have), I'd pick up the phone and get all Charles Bronsonlike on there hide. Having a past in sales, I know exactly how to derail a upsell.

First I don't have a problem with buying a house(I work at a mortgage company), it has pros and cons and you need to know what you are getting into before getting chained to a mortgage for 30 years. On the flip side upselling to the point of twice your household income sets you up for failure. Folks also get set up for failure by habitually refinancing a lifestyle and the associated costs with a upsold house.

Chevrolet Commercials

Postby jmacdaddio » Sun 15 Oct 2006, 21:15:00

Those of us watching sports lately have been bombarded with the latest GM ad campaign, featuring a hokey patriotic jingle sung by John Mellencamp (sellout!) and feel-good images of firemen, farmers, soldiers holding children, and neighbors helping neighbors in hurricane-ravaged areas.

This campaign shows how pathetic GM has become in their quest to stay alive. Am I supposed to go out and buy a Chevy Silverado because it was made in America, or in Oshawa, Ontario which is close enough? Or should I make a car decision based on many factors such as the design, my needs, and the reliability of the vehicle? The Big Two and a Half could appeal to patriotic instincts in the past but not now, because we're in an era where everyone has access to information and is able to make an informed decision. I'm not going to buy a Chevy and prop up some fat GM retiree in the rust belt when I can buy a Nissan and know that the price I paid for the car is for the car and not to support a fishing boat somewhere.

Nobody will want a Hummer or a Silverado when gas goes to $4 a gallon and stays there, nobody will want a vehicle that does not compete in value when compared to a Japanese or European import, and a dwindling number of car buyers will respond to a rock singer's hokey appeal to patriotism. The big dip in gas prices may have bought GM another year or two, tops ... they're toast in 5 years.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')ee the U.S.A. in your Chevrolet. America is asking you to call.
Drive your Chevrolet through the U.S.A. America's the greatest land of all.

On a highway or a road along a levee:
Performance is sweeter, nothing can beat 'er. Life is completer in a Chevy.
So make a date today to see the U.S.A., and see it in your Chevrolet.

Travelin' east or travelin' west, wherever you go, Chevy service is best.
Southward or north, near place or far, there's a Chevrolet dealer for your Chevrolet car.

See the U.S.A. in your Chevrolet. The Rockies way out west are calling you.
Drive your Chevrolet through the U.S.A., where waving fields of wheat pass in review.

Whether Trav'ling light or with a load that's heavy:
Performance is sweeter, nothing can beat 'er. Life is completer in a Chevy.
So make a date today to see the U.S.A. and see it in your Chevrolet.

Where's Dinah Shore when you need her?

Remember, life is completer in a Chevy...Life is completer in a Chevy...Life is completer in a Chevy.

Just keep repeating that and you'll be looking to trade in that rust bucket Honda of yours for a real car.

What's good for General Motors is good for America!

Our country, our truck!

This all resembles the content some dystopian scifi novel from the 1930s-1950s would contain.

Best commercial since Ford's "it creates its own energy" Fusion.

Chevys blow up nice and smooth with a pipe bomb under them. Don't try this at home, kiddies!

They're also excellent choices for a good hotbox if you have an adequate supply of reefer.

Yes it's true. You don't know whether to laugh or cry!

Did you like my previous sig? "Is our children learning yet?"

Here's another one of my favorite anecdotes:
Just before his visit to Denmark in July, Bush was interviewed by Danish TV. As a softball final question, the Danish reporter asked what he was looking forward to most about visiting Copenhagen. Bush struggled to answer, explaining that he wouldn't have time to be a tourist, before ending with this: "I'm looking forward to a good night's sleep on the soil of a friend."

If you Google Bushisms you'll find lots of hilarious quotes.

Speaking of lame car commercials, and there are many....

There is a new commercial where a pro athlete, possibly an NBA player, says, paraphrasing, "My dream is to leave the world a better place..."

Being the generous humanitarian his publicist wants him to be portrayed as, he then throws a set of keys to some Joe Schmoe on the street. The keys are for a shiny new Lincoln SUV! :-x

If he really wanted to make an impact, it would have been something like a Tesla Roadster or Tango.

Little do they realise, it's French.

No wonder they think Russian and Chinese engineering is the best, if ability to repair it with a spanner is high on your list of criteria.
