Here is a fun quick test. Won't tell you your actual IQ, but if it takes you longer that 25 minutes your probably retarded. (not that there is anything wrong with that)

This is another second-time-around thread. Can anything be more fatuous that posting your "IQ" on an internet posting froum? I foolishly posted "mine" the last time around, which was based on a high school psychology class test. My "IQ" was tested in grade school and my parents never told me the results, or my brothers' either. Smart move, but I suspect the reason they didn't was because children shouldn't be told such things, perhaps they thought the kids would blab it and incur the wrath of the neighbors parents. Sporting prowess is celebrated, innate genetic intelligence is best left to fields of accomplishment as well. Wanna prove you are smart? Solve the energy problem.

Really good with music? fine, write it! Really good with interpersonal relations? fine, relate away! Really good with intrapersonal relations? fine, be a guru! Really good with machines? fine, we could use a fusion reactor. etc. "IQ" should be swept into the dustbin of history.

With all these brain children here, I'm shocked that none of you know that IQ is a meaningless concept in adults.

IQ stands for intelligence quotient. It is defined as your mental age divided by your physical age. Saying that a 10 y/o has the mind of an 8 y/o (i.e. has an IQ of 80) makes perfect sense. Saying a 30 y/o has the mind of a 24 y/o is just moronic. There is a no scientifically valid IQ test for adults, nor any conceptually meaningful idea of what an IQ means in an adult. Adults specialize into learning areas. Ask Stephen Hawkings about Egyptian Anthropology and you'll probably conclude he's a dolt. To IQ test adults you would have to have a specific test built around that individual person's area of sub-specialization.

Unless you're all children, you don't have an IQ.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')aying a 30 y/o has the mind of a 24 y/o is just moronic.

The 30 y/o in this case is considered to have a chronological age of 16, with 16 also being the average mental age for adults, as that is widely considered by the developers of such tests to be the point at which the brain has matured.

(Mental Age)/(Chronological Age)*100 = IQ

I think that's how they calaculate it at least, if wrong sonmeone correct me.

So for an adult to have a mental age of 20(regardless of their chronological age, as 16 is the highest these tests count), they'd have an IQ of 125. An adult with an IQ of 100, being normal, will have a mental age of 16, no matter whether they are 30 years old or whatever.

But personally, I think IQ is a fairly useless measurement.

My point precisely, SPG. Well said. I think we would all like to know how things are going for you in your new locale of Montana. We're a tight bunch here. We care. And, I might add, the best of us don't regard ideology as a hindrance to concern for our fellows.

Adults do not have IQ's. Children have IQ's. It is a child development test. Adults have PhDs or Nobel prizes. They get elected mayor or they become the school janitor. Adult intelligence is not measured in IQ by anyone except for MENSA morons that don't understand the test.

I doubt that the psychologists of the world would agree. It could be argued that measuring child development was the purpose the very first IQ tests were developed for by Terman and others, but according to the resources available that explain this measurement, adults do have IQs(This according to encyclopedias I've read, psychology textbooks, and other resources). Historically, the military has used various forms of 'intelligence tests' and so too have some employers.

These tests appear stupid to me though. As I've said earlier, they gauge how well you take the test more than anything else. Just because a person cannot recognize patterns or shapes doesn't mean they don't have the potential to earn a Nobel Prize or become a mayor... Yet it could also be argued that there are many stupid mayors around as well; achievement isn't a measure of intelligence either. I'd go so far as to argue that it's impossible to accurately measure intelligence and that any such measurements are virtually meaningless, as Blistered Whippet has pointed out.

I couldn't rearrange "insatiable", either. I got as close as "t-lesbiania", which I decided was a dopamine-like neurotransmitter that makes women more friendly with each other.

A kindergarten teacher who's trying to figure out whether a child with a really messed up drawing of a person is disturbed and in need of special education, or is 'gifted' and had an anatomy book to draw from as a five year old.

Five year olds with really bad motor skills attempting to draw a human body with organs, veins, and arteries can really make a mess!

I wonder what peak oiler's HQ's, or Honesty Quotients are. Bearing in mind that penis length and IQ are inversely proportional, tell us again what your IQ is.

How about HQ for Humility Quotient? Now there's a good one. Try bragging about that, and you'll score low on the UPQ (understanding paradox quotient)
.

It's weird how IQ is measured. As if a child with an IQ of 180, for example, is twice as "smart" as a child with an IQ of 90.

Humans are only fractionally more aware than border collies, and the real difference between 90 and 180, in the grand scheme of things, shouldn't amount to more than 10 points, if it must be measured.

We are all delightfully retarded.
