$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Aaron', 'J')ust passin along the thoughts of another...
And I have to say, that even it is complete rubbish, and was never like that... the idea it represents is noble... and worth our understanding I think.
So easy to criticize... so difficult to create.
I know and I wasnt aiming anything at you per se.
agreed on - noble and worth our understanding - yet you must surely understand how it is being manipulated to correlate to todays issues no?
These people wanna believe that the immigrants had some choice and chose america yet the reality is that many were running away from persecution, famine and war and saw no other choice.
Odd how some of them ran right into more persecution, famine and war no?
Just like PO there are many truths and many fallacies.
No I dont think it is hard to create - if you only knew how many patriotic type rants I have typed and then deleted because I felt a sense of hypocrisy after rereading.
It is as if I must suspend disbelief in order to feel proud anymore.
Shame.
Some may suggest that one gets to a point where they simply "know too much" and this applies well to you and PO
____________
Fourofswords - no flames for you.
sorry if posting that made you cringe because I may come off as overly hostile sometimes
my goal is not to argue every point here.
Just as there is a harsh reality with PO there are also other harsh realities about events such as past US immigration.
My being negative is an effort to remove the sugar coating and I think it serves that purpose well.
Who disagrees that this letter was not sugar coating reality?
I sometimes weep thinking of what we have become.
No sooner do I regain some strength and confidence then I remind myself of the rape, theft and murder of indigenous peoples that led to our becoming.
I can honestly see no greatness in what we have accomplished or in how we have accomplished it.
Us and the world.
Perhaps we are great because we can kill the world 500 times over.
Perhaps we are great because we can ride to the store and carry 4 weeks worth of groceries to our home without breaking a sweat.
Maybe its the fact that we have more death by starvation now then 50 years ago or some other similar proof of decay.
Maybe it is our complete and utter addiction to hydrocarbons......
When some people set out to prove a point they are sometimes armed to the teeth with evidence of decay yet when it is their patriotism in question they often forget those things wether convenient or just some sort of self defense mechanism.
I shine negative light on positive BS yet that does not mean that I leave people with only negatives or otherwise do not promote the positive.
As a result of my understanding of peak oil my family is going to be located in one of many eco villages in the very near future.
Need a more positive example then that?
See me running away from my country or not doing what I should in light of the knowledge I now have?
No.
Its ok - I know how this strikes to the root of some people.
Nationalism is blind patriotism and let it not be said that I went along quietly with it.
Being a self proclaimed student of Theosophy I am very aware of the wisdom of the sages and the ignorance thereof by modern mankind.
What you are suggesting works for you yet what works for you no longer works for me.
Maybe in 20-30 years if america turns this around - I can think back and laugh at how I felt here and now and then cry tears of joy because we have managed to prevent the worst of PO and global warming etc etc.
Maybe.
Hope springs eternal.
It is easier to enslave a people that wish to remain free then it is to free a people who wish to remain enslaved.
