If *really* hungry, a bag of fresh-popped plain popcorn mixed with two or three handfuls of honey-roasted peanuts from one of those huge 3lb. tins. If not so hungry, pomegranate-blueberry juice. Nectar of the frickin' gods. :)

Chocolate - nothing beats chocolate, unless you really want something salty, then hot chips with tomato sauce.

The guacamole w blue corn chips is hard to beat.

Of course, properly made popcorn with fresh apple cider ranks pretty high also.

And Costco's exceptional garlic bread w butter is amazing.

It's all about the Guac.

...with diced tomatoes of course.

I haven't tried it with blue corn tortillas, though. I'll have to pick up some from work tomorrow.

Why mention palm oil? An industrial crop popular in countries where the soilbase is being rapidly depleted? Where the corporate heirs of European neocolonialism are finishing off what governments started? Destroying the culture, the economic base? Forcing people to starve and accept IMF debt whilst exporting all their natural resources?

I'm sorry did I give you heartburn?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Doly', 'S')unflower seeds. They keep you entertained for ages, and require no energy to proccess or cook.

I had a bag of them once, I'm glad I didn't eat them in the dark. Because of the high protein content.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'I') like my guac with just onions, a little worstershire, and lime juice.

Avocados and guacamole are great on white bread. Just try it. I don't know what it is, but it's more than the sum of the parts.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', '
')On top of that list are grapes and then other really fresh real fruit from real trees.

Grapes with almonds is another winning combo. Again, just try it.

That's called muesli. Classic mistake is to have it with too much sugar.

A few of my current favorites:

- sweet, juicy nectarines (couldn't get enough of them this summer)

- peanut butter and honey sandwich on really fresh whole wheat bread

- actually, any kind of bread that's fresh-made and interesting

- trail mix (put all your favorite nibbles in it) - like cheerios, almonds, pretzels and M & M's!

I used to visit a popular restaurant for deep fried zucchini sticks with dill dip - so yummy. They seem to have been a trendy snack that's disappeared, though. I guess I could make them at home - maybe bake them in the oven or something.

Raw pumpkin seeds. You can harvest quite a few of them. Chewed, the seeds mash into a paste that is not unpleasant. You can make a butter out of them. The seeds should be consumed raw.

http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tnam ... ce&dbid=82

These seeds are nature's multivitamins. Compare the calories, protein, and fats per serving size to meat, for instance. A powerhouse.

If you want to go HARDCORE, replace one meal daily by munching handfuls of pumpkin seeds, about 1 oz./day. You will lose fat rapidly and if you exercise, you will rapidly pack on muscle.

Best bet finding them is natural foods stores. Roasted seeds have less nutritional value.

I take pumpkins from my garden and carve the seeds out of them.

Clean the seeds and soak them in salt water for 24 hours and bake them at approximately 275° for an hour or so, until they start turning golden colored. Delicious and buttery!

Then I take my favorite homebrew (my own concoction, if you are curious try deschutes mirror pond, very similar), american pale ale, and have a snack that lasts for hours!

The two go perfectly together!
