I don't understand how someone could have over one thousand posts on www.peakoil.com and not know about "abiotic" oil theory.

I think she has. She just thinks it's silly is my guess; just a tale for us to spook ourselves with. The mainstream and the government aren't talking about it so it probably isn't real. The simplest thing to do is say, "oh well, I don't know anything about it, silly me, meanwhile the American devils are killing everyone and the wicked Israelis are horrible!"

Come on, Miki, the late Joe Vialls (he died recently) was a virulent, foaming-at-the-mouth, conspiracy-theorizing, classically anti-Semitic neo-Nazi. He scoured the world from his computer in Australia, scraping together "evidence" of Jewish depravity for many years.


Well, I certainly didn't know that Zardoz. As for PO, I've read some of the basic stuff and I was planning to take a look at the "how to be prepared" (forgot the exact name) thread to learn about some possible ways to deal with this if it happens when it happens. There are many educated/intelligent people in this forum, and I just can't dismiss something that they all seem to agree with. I am skeptical of the more doomerish scenarios, but I need to learn more before discarding them. I even told my parents about it, and we have a piece of arable land and a house in the N. of Lebanon. Right now it only produces olives, but in my dad's village there are grapes, figs, cows, hens, and they are all fed with local stuff. I suggested that we try to prepare the land for other stuff, and that we consider buying some arable land in Peru (in the Andes), in case we're there. The Andes are very fertile. My parents didn't take me too seriously, to be honest. They both think that by the time the oil starts decreasins, alternative forms of energy will be available at a larger scale.

Thanks to those of you who bothered to explain it to me in polite terms. I am the first one to admit that I don't know enough about the topic. That said, I don't see how any of you intends to convey your message if you atack anyone who asks questions, and you make assumptions about how ignorant they are and how much respect they have for your opinions. I think people have the right to question and be skeptical, no?

PMS seems to have too many assumptions about me. He seems to think that the criminal wars that the US and Israel fight for oil have nothing to do with oil. Aren't the resource wars one of the most dramatic consequences of PO? Aren't the millions of lives that will be lost the most important aspect of all this?

He also seems to think that I don't have any respect for the opinions of others and that I am as rigid as he is. He seems to think that, like him, I get my views on the world from the bunch of liars in the US government. He seems to think that the thousands of people that are being slaughtered thanks to his country's greed for oil are not important. He seems to think that only American lives and the maintenance of the filthy "American lifestyle" is important.

Seldom Seen is too unconfortable with the things I say, so he calls them "spam" and atacks me. He would like to continue thinking that Muslims are a bunch of backward criminals, and that him and his government have no responsability on this, so he would love for me to stop pointing out the unconfortable truth to him and others. Somehow the concept that the Open Discussion forum is for any topic doesn't fit in his head. Neither has he understood one of the most important issues of PO: the geopolitical dynamics that it involves.

Interestingly, I don't see those that are open to my ideas complaining about me posting about Israel and the US. It is only the radical right wingers/Islamophobics "America is ever righteous" Israel's unconditional lovers that seem to be bothered by my posts. Must mean something, no?

You certainly don't help people get interested in PO by assuming they're ignorant, not having respect for their views, and not being open to their ideas. And then you complain that others are ignorant, not interested in PO, or not open to new ideas. Maybe that's part of the reason why many are not listening to you. And by "you" I mean those of you who seem to be offended by the fact that I have valid opinions that contradict their views.

True. This said, while Iraq looks definitely like a resource war, I'm not entirely sure that what happened with Lebanon had to do with oil. And I know that I suggested it to you at the time, but the way events have developed, I don't know what to think any more. It doesn't look like Israel is going to attack Iran soon. Everything in the Middle East is so confusing...

Miki, you have just hit one of the things I keep repeating in these forums from time to time: you have to explain PO in the right way, or you won't be listened to. Certainly calling people ignorant and not respecting their views is a no-no.

But you have to realise that the people who post the most here are the ones with the most time in their hands, and you have to think what kind of people have lots of time in their hands. No disrespect to anybody in particular here, but after a while, you get to know a bit about the personal histories of frequent posters, and their posts make a lot more sense in that context.

I don't remember anything that was anti-Semitic about the article. They only mention it in the title and the 'Zionist Cabale" twice. That's not really a rant on Jews or Israel. It was mostly about the US and 'incompetent' Western geologists who could only uncover 2 trillion barrels of oil.

You're taking it very personally when it was not meant to be an atack on the idea of PO, but an invitation for discussion.

1-It was not *my* title.

2-I stated very clearly that it was not my opinion and that I don't even know enough about the topic.

3-I thought people were allowed to question some aspects of PO here. I was not told I was impolite when I did that before. Neither Venky, nor Azreal, nor SPG, nor Nwildman considered me impolite for that. On the contrary, they welcomed the fact that I was trying to learn about it.

1-Anti-Semitic? You're invited to review each and all my posts and find a single anti-Semitic remark on them. I am one of the few people in this forum who has bothered to ask everyone to respect all ethnicities and religions in their posts. And I did twice.

If you consider criticizing the state of Israel anti-semitic, that's another matter.

2-You're anger at me for posting an article that questioned PO has nothing to do with the quality of my arguments about American foreign policy, and you know that very well. I'm surprised that you say that from all people. I have seen you post many articles and comments that confirmed my arguments. Most of your ideas seem to agree quite a bit with mine.

3-I rarely post things based on my biases. I make it a point to provide links that provide support for my opinions, whereas people like Kam30en insist that the state of Israel is all righteous, but has yet to provide a link showing evidence that the accusations of war crimes and violations of human rights of the state of Israel are not true.

Nwildman: You should have provided the post from Kam30en's that I was responding to. You should have also provided my complete post, instead of picking and choosing from it. Kam30en was arguing that Jews are hated by everyone and that justifies everything they do. I pointed out that that *argument* is getting old and it's illogical. I also pointed out that if Jews are doing to Palestinians what the Nazis did to the Jews, then they have learned nothing from the Holocaust.

There is nothing anti-semitic about criticizing a government and those citizens that agree with the criminal actions of their government, such as Kam3-en. Those people are the greatest anti-Semites in the world.
