Don't worry, I'm not a Canadian (thank God).

And the test is HIGHLY misleading.

I happen to believe that a mother's most important job is that of raising her children.

That does not translate into a belief that women should be banned from the workplace.

I happen to believe that the rich are too highly taxed. As a matter of fact, I believe that everyone is too highly taxed. But that wasn't an option...

One of the questions asked if marijuana should be legalized. I believe that all drugs should be legalized, with the exception of heroine, meth, and crack cocaine. To me, strongly supporting the legalization of marijuana doesn't automatically mean support for wider drug legalization. Another flawed question...

"Some People Are Naturally Unlucky". Ok, BIG FREAKING DEAL. What does luck have to do with political ideology?

And lastly, "No one can feel naturally homosexual." I happen to strongly agree with this statement. But only because I believe that is impossible to feel naturally anything. Feeling natural is not one of the possible human experiences. I'm sorry, I just refuse to believe in the concept of "natural experience".

Fully 1/3 of all of these questions are either pointless, subjective, or misleading.

Lastly, the test has a strong Authoritarian bias.

If you answer "strongly agree" to every question, you end up with this:
Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: 0.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 4.36

A good test would have put you at 0,0. Otherwise people might feel inclined to agree with every ambiguous statement in order to finish that particular question and move on.

Or, one could be inclined to claim disagreement with bad questions for the same reason.

Regardless, the TEST IS FLAWED.

There are much better political tests out there.

But yeah, some of those questions were a bit open ended and/or misleading. Fun to do in any case.

I seem to be middle of the road:

Economic Left/Right: -1.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.15

But, I found the questions are too cliched. It would be better if the questions were actual situational judgement ones.

For instance I do believe that the most imprtant "occupation" of any parent is a happy homelife. But, its not something I feel should be, or even could be, legislated.

Likewise, for me, it important my children be schooled in a relgious school, but I can't say this its best for you, and in fact, it would be hypocritical for you to send your kids to a religious school if you do not practice it yourself.

way closer to center than i thought it would be.i was sure i would end up more fascist that.

i took the test again to try to skew it as far to the upper right as i could and i got
Economic Left/Right: 7.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 7.69

how you few people got past the +/-7.75 mark is beyond me.

it would be interesting to make a chart of us all and see where we are all at. i would do it but i know nothing of graphic design.

The test is hardly accurate. It tries to create a 2 dimensional graph and claims that this is superior to a left-right scale, but in reality, politics is a 3 dimensional cube which can be represented with the following policy positions

-Economics
-Social Issues
-Foreign policy

And from these, you would have to split into subcategories:

ECONOMICS
-Trade position (protectionist vs liberalized)
-Social safety net (welfare state vs self-reliance)
-Market economy (socialist vs capitalist)

SOCIAL ISSUES
-Morality (free love VS sharia)
-Authority (liberty VS security)

FOREIGN POLICY
-Military (pacifist VS assertive)
-Geopolitics (internationalist VS isolationist)

So with this, you can more accurately describe political personalities like Pat Buchanan who describes himself as a capitalist but believes in protectionism, who is a social conservative and although he believes in an assertive military, he does not believe in engaging in foreign wars. You can have pacifists on the left, but they will get involved in international engagements (example: Bill Clinton's war against Serbia).

One can be a social conservative without believing in a more authoritarian society.

As a latecomer to this poll:

Economics +6.63
Social -6.41

I would say that of all the scores revealed by other posters, I am in a category with very little company, down in the lower right quadrant.

There are not too many people who believe simultaneously in economic and social freedom, both here and in general society as indicated by this poll and the consistent failure of the Libertarian Party to get much more than 5% of the vote in elections.

I have never really fully figured out why it is that people who tend to believe in economic freedom have a strong tendency to want to deny people personal freedom, and those who believe in personal freedom have a strong tendency to want to deny people economic freedom, hence the strength in the lower left quadrant and upper right quadrant; seems that not many trust others to live fully free lives. My best guess is projection, where social authoritarians really don't thrust themselves to live responsibly in their personal lives so they opt for external societal controls, and the economic control freaks want economic controls/support because they do not trust that they are capable of representing themselves in the money department successfully on their own.
