$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'd')oes belief in the hereafter, virgin birth, and the rapture count as a personality disorder or mental illness? How about optimism in an entropic universe?

I'd start with Psychotic Disorder NOS. That would be an Axis I disorder, aka mental illness.
"We were standing on the edges
Of a thousand burning bridges
Sifting through the ashes every day
What we thought would never end
Now is nothing more than a memory
The way things were before
I lost my way" - OCMS

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('smallpoxgirl', '

Huh? They work fine for me. :P

I don't understand why it is considered more mentally healthy to prefer the company of others than to one's own company. In my experience, it is only the few that are interesting and worthwhile while the many are boring, stupid or irritating. I mean, everyone by virtue of being human needs a little society but why is it necessary to enjoy a whole lot of it?

Stating the obvious, but these generic tests really have little value. Indeed, they have a high potential to mislead.

My own result came out as Very high on Schizoid Personality Disorder and High on Paranoid, Narcissistic and Schizotypal. However, I am in fact diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome - similar in many ways to elements of those but not at all the same thing. It least the test does mention the similarity on the Schizoid description. Even so, the limitations of the test in helping in evaluating ones own personality should be self evident. If I did not know I had Aspergers, how would this test help me know whether I am Schizoid or an Aspie? The answer is, it wouldn't.

OTOH, a test specifically designed to test for one condition, with questions that can help clearly demarcate between one condition and similar ones can be beneficial in gaining personal insight.

If you do insist on taking tests like this, keep an open mind and try follow up tests to check for specific attributes related to that condition. Also, looking up the condition in DSM-IV can help you sort between related or similar disorders - but only if you can remain intellectually honest and objective.

It should also be pointed out that in some quarters it is argued that many of these so-called disorders are merely the medicalisation of the normal range of personalities that, nevertheless fall outside of the boundaries of what is regarded as acceptable or typical to the majority of people. e.g. since when has self-reliance or clinging to personal rights been a symptom of a disorder? They aren't, but in a greater context it can tell you more about yourself.

I know some pple have serious issues with mental health, but the vast majority of pple that have 'issues' are just manufactured. Stress is a real phenomena, but its effects are over medicated and it boils down to the person not being able to control his actions through frustration or rage. Settle down and chill and it will be alright. But pple act out and then think and then go "OMG, what did I just do?". Like thats an excuse.

I have a saying I take with me everywhere, I say it to myself only, sometimes aloud, but whenever I get into a spot that is causing me distress or stress (traffic on a daily basis here in Dallas), I just tell myself 'Go with GOD'. With that, I have preconditioned myself to imagine GOD sitting right next to me, would he approve of me calling that chick on a phone that jut about took out three lanes of traffic a "witch". Would he approve of the way I am about to handle this situation. If I figure he would not be, then I take a step back and ask GOD for advise and the power to chill out. I talk to him like hes my best friend, I yell at him sometimes. Sometimes we laugh together. (I also talk a lot to my mother who I was very close to while she was alive. seems silly, but when I talk to her, sometimes I feel as she is actually helping me, guide me. Maybe its me wanting to believe that, but in any event, it provides a comfort to me. Whatever works for you).

But the point is, I have decided to not loose my cool, take responsibility for my actions. When someone wants to cut in line at the exit ramp, I back off and let him in, cause hes too much of an special and cant wait in line. These special pple, GOD will deal with in his own way and time. It rolls off me like a water on a ducks back.

If more pple would just make a concious decision to not loose control, take responsibility for their actions, we would be a better world, but pple are now conditioned to go to the dr and get a xanax or someother pill to fix all there problems.

Like I say, Know there are legitimate medical conditions that require real medical attention and medication. Maybe even lock up. But 95% of our mental issues are man made and fed by pharmacutical companies. They breed paranoia and mal-contentness. Then they promise a fix for $25.00 a month for the rest of your life (thats if you have insurance).

PS. Theres a booklet I would like to recommend to the community, written by Brother Lawrence in the 1700's, called "The Practice of the presence of GOD". This gave me the idea and tools to condition myself to imagine GOD is sitting next to me in the flesh. It cant hurt you, unless your just dead set against any GOD. In that case, I dont recommend the book to you guys, just the guys that want to learn to stay in control of their emotions and actions.

On Schizoid.... The point of it is that some people are Schizoid and would like to not be Schizoid, or perhaps the Schizoid nature interferes with the treatment of something more serious.

It put me as high Schizoid and low/medium everything else. But, as I like being Schizoid, and being Schizoid doesn't interfere with anything I'm trying to accomplish, its a wash.

We did this a year or so ago, when there seemed to be more interesting people here. Just to remind: Schizoid, Schizotypal, Avoidant-high; Dependent, Paranoid, Narcissistic-moderate; rest-low---Diagnosis: Mild Schizophrenia.

It's not easy being avoidant and dependent at the same time. I still say the rest of humanity really are the crazy ones...you know, the people who drive cars and work in big ugly buildings, wear suits, vote, have mortgages, carry ID, don't give a shit about trashing the planet--so called "normal" people suck.

The Kogi I would call sane.

Speak to Me
(Mason) 1:16

"I've been mad for fucking years, absolutely years, been over the edge for yonks, been working me buns off for bands..."

"I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the
most of us...very hard to explain why you're mad, even if you're not mad..."

The Great Gig in the Sky
(Wright) 4:44

"And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I
don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying?
There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime."

"If you can hear this whispering you are dying."

"I never said I was frightened of dying."
Good night, and good luck...

I dunno. The reference page indicated that a Schizoid stoner might be extremely difficult to treat for the drug addiction, since he'd be perfectly able to play nice through weeks or months of therapy, and as soon as released, drive to Mexico and buy some pot.

I despise drugs as they would interfere with what I want to do; but I can see the truth in that little snippet. If getting high was what I valued, "treatment" would be the height of futility. On the other hand, if I had at some point gotten hooked on pain killers or something, and they started to interfere with things that needed doing, I might require help to get through the personality disorder in order to then be able to address the drug problem.

Schizophrenia is nothing to be desired. The world must seem even more cruel and baffling to those so afflicted than to the rest of us with garden variety neuroses. I am also sympathetic and sad for bipolar sufferers. I've seen first hand how tragic it is. Mental illness seemed to get a kind of romantic patina in the 60s because of people like R. D. Laing, but it is not good or enjoyable as far as I can see.

Going just on wikipedia here, but Schizoid and Schizophrenia are not particularly related, other than sharing a root word in the name.

I've seen the bipolar thing though, and its bad news.

That's what I got, too. High Schizoid and low or medium everything else. But I'm not in the least schizophrenic. I form close relationships but they are very few and very long term and I seem to need generous portions of time to be alone. Often, I find relating to ordinary everyday people to be tedious. I'd rather have the company of a good dog most of the time.

Narcissistic, antisocial paranoid schitz. I think I'll have to change my name to Grendel and start terrorizing the humans...or maybe I'll just go back to my cave at the rim of the world and sulk.
