Thanks, had not seen that one yet.
I'm really glad with that explanation, almost thought Rummy's truth is different form the official truth.
Just like this slip of the other tongue he made: “and the missile to damage this building and similar “.

I know what happened, he's been reading all those crazy crackpot conspiracy sites. It gets you confused.
So I am prepared, when he says something along the line of:" and the people that put explosives in those buildings".
No worries, just a slip of the tongue again....

Personally, I feel sorry for the guy. He wasn't hired to fight a war. They brought him in to "transform" the military. He was in charge of the Force Transformation or whatever it was called commission before becoming secretary. I think that if he had been able to focus on that, no one would be critizing him. He's the right man for the wrong job.

Already been shown. But very funny and yet so sad. Next thing we know, everyone caught for a crime be it speeding, shoplifting, burglary will be called a terrorist and treated like one for the main purpose of keeping the people scared.

When this story first broke, and they carried comments from the neighbors about how these guys were doing things like going around asking for water, exercising in the middle of the night, and "standing guard", it was obvious that it was a farce.

That news conference is hilarious.

Sometimes people wonder why the Islamic radicals haven't pulled off a single attack on US soil since 911.

Well, it is obvious to most outside observers, including Al Qaeda, that we are doing a super job of destroying ourselves as posturing idiots like Gonzales parade around like the dangerous incompetents that they are........my god, a bunch of warehouse idjit wannabees who have no terror connections, no weapons, no training, and have never even been to Chicago.

Definitely worth an executive branch press conference.

I imagine we'll be seeing a lot of these made-up terror plots and more phony 'orange alerts' between now and november as the republicans play into the ground the only card they have left- the (laughable) 'we're tough on terror card'. The Cheney classic 'vote for us or you might see a mushroom cloud' strategy is back in full force.

Fear in Marketing

Fear is a well-documented and effective marketing tool. Of course, eventually you get the "customers" so scared all the time, that it stops working.

I think that is because bush and the neocons are doing such a superb job of advancing their agenda that they have nothing more to gain and only stand to lose by attacking us again. 9/11 made bush's presidency, and the fear card has helped them hold on to power, but another actual attack could be bad for bush politically, and therefore bad for islamic jihadists.

Maybe they are trying to herd us back to home soil...

Meaning they may leave US domestic targets alone but attack US military and commercial interests in the ME or other Islamic regions of the world. The US homeland may remain a safe haven while areas where US foreign operations continue will become increasingly dangerous.
.

In other words Yankee Go Home where you will be safe from our attacks!

Daily show pretty much talking about peak oil

Unread postby azreal60 » Tue 25 Jul 2006, 23:17:50

I don't know if you all are seeing what I'm seeing. But while watching the Daily show tonight, the words we are running out of oil was uttered by John Stewart. For people of my generation, this guy is God. This is bigger than any news anchor on the planet uttering those words, because they don't have as big an audiance.

I still don't like how people use the term "running out". When we run out of oil, then all the oil fields in all the world will be producing nothing. The length of time between the world starting it's oil decline and the oil running out is several decades at least.

The majority of people who are just starting to hear about peak oil still don't understand that a small decline is all it takes for major disruptions in the economy.

Most people will assume that we are really in danger of running out of a huge percentage of oil production. While it is possible, it is more likely that a modest year on year decline will occur. We need to start clarifying the slow process of oil decline, or everyone will treat it like another y2k, oil here today, gone tomorrow.

Yes, but the way he put it really didn't sound that far fetched. Tonight was the night that convinced me I learn more from an hour of Comedy central than I do from 10 hours of news watching and reading the paper. They even pointed out the kinds of stories that the morning news shows are putting out and then they go on about the Colbert report being a fake news show. That had to be the most ironic thing I've seen all week.

Be patient. It's taken 50 years for the concept of peak oil to start penetrating the mainstream. You can't expect the Homer Simpsons to immediately grasp the finer concepts right away.

i get your point, but "running out" is a fine term to use in a situation where the eroei for getting it out of the ground is 1:1. that's where you get one of your water everywhere and not a drop to drink scenarios.

in fact it is this tipping point that gets me most worried. you can leverage even small eroei gains over and over, but as it approaches one for one.... no amount of leverage will work.

what are the general statistics for oil? hasn't it gone from like 1:70 to like 1:4 in the last 50 years? i mean to produce a barrel of usable oil...
