$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Zardoz', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('fireplaceguy', '.')..What an astonishing thread...

...Those hydrocarbons WILL be burned. Those greenhouse gases WILL be released...

Astonishing is right, but not for the reason you think it is.

What's astonishing is how many people think that we really need to keep on consuming hydrocarbons as fast as we possibly can. The way some of us are ridiculing the concept of reduced consumption is astonishing, indeed.

cooooool! you both missed AND proved my point!

Show me where anything we have done has helped the situation.

At least some people have the balls to propose we do something besides drill ANWR and everywhere else or fight wars.

Kinda get that straight-jacket feeling now dont ya? (spell checked for complete idiots meaning DO YOU NOT?) ;-)

I strive to maintain political independence yet as I peak out across the field I find the democrats more palletable then the republicans more often then not.

Jevons paradox/jerdons doohicky hah thats funny RWWFF thanks ~ is not a rule.
It happens when something like a mandated speed limit for conservation efforts is not a team effort and yes I know how classic it is to say "if we all pull together as a team" yet perhaps personal sacrifice is nearer then we would like to believe.

Actually in light of capitolistic economic systems - we will have to save something besides MONEY from our conservation efforts as they/we have our way with money by lending it through the fiat money system thereby increasing demand rather then curbing it.

I guess the best thing we could do is die off huh? ok fine but you first ;-)

Let us begin with texas and then we can move onto canada who uses more fuel per capita because everything is so far away - like in texas yet canadians act so holy when it comes to PO usually.

Exactly what is your "dream" FPG?
I am getting this spontaneous human combustion type vision ;-)

Without "EXHORTING" anybody to do anything "illegal", I still maintain that traffic cops should be ashamed of themselves for making a living by robbing citizens with a badge and a gun, they waste valuable resources hiding at the side of the road all day when they could be investigating crimes, they are spineless cowards without their tax and fine paid back up, they routinely harrass innocent people, and we should do whatever is within our "legal" power to stop them from doing these corrupt activities.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Specop_007', 'A')nd as was said earlier, does it really matter in the long run? Whatever we dont use someone else will, you can count on it. I for damn sure dont want to putt down the road at 55 so some Chinese guy can gas his car up and blast down the road at 90, or so some European can gas up his car and drive down the road at 150.

Its going to be used. Period. If its not us, its someone else. Thats just the facts.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why we are garenteed a hard crash.

You know, I was all prepared to come out on the side of the 55 mph speed limit. I know from personal experence that it would bring down alot of peoples fuel usage in the US, and that couldn't help but be a good thing. It would also make people realize just how long their commutes are, and start thinking about reducing them, also, a good thing.

But I guess what it comes down to is, the speed limit is 55 now on my local belt line for the city. It's 65 on the Interstate. The local beltline is almost universally traveled at 65 miles an hour. They very rarely have speed traps, but this stops people for about 2 days. In the long run, speed limits only effect the people who where already being responsible about their speeds.

I guess also Jevron's paradox makes me think it would indeed be a lost cause. If we jacked up oil prices with taxes in addition to the drop in speed limit, sure, then it might have some effect on the world at large, because the US would have a smoother transition into powerdown. But the oil is still going to get used. China and India especially Will use it if it's available. After all, can we blame them? We did the same damn thing for the last 50 years.

So I guess I'll have to say that I'm not sure this will do much more than enrich the people who give the tickets. ( if you think speeding tickets are going towards renewable energy, you obviously don't know how cops work) I don't feel any real need to increase already bloated budgets for the judicial system, so I would say no, I'm not a proponent of the speed limit.

You want to do something politically that will Actually effect peak oil? Convince your local and state government to start designing your state in a manner that actually will be sustainable. The availability of electrified public transport is going to determine how well your area survives the coming era. Some politician from Washington is not going to be helping you a whole lot unless they are the second comming of the Messiah. And even then, they would have their work cut out for them.

I'll wait for the facts to come out in court; as I said. If these accusations are simply unproveable smears, I will hold Delay in high esteem both for his accomplishments and his refusal to cop a plea to false charges, if not, he can go rot in federal prison for all I care.

His handling of the Texas redistricting effort was exceptionally competent.

You are correct about saving yourself - I am with you there.....

I am glad that all of us seem to be coming to the same conclusion albeit from different angles.

Oh THAT Delay.

Watch and learn.

Everybodys gotto learn sometime - google hosted movie about 911

I did not have much time to learn when it happened and little time for conspiracies as PO hit me last year.
One major mind fucking at a time please ;-)

Thanks to Kevo for pointing this video out to me.
I am now very convinced that they allowed it to happen and many of TPTB are guilty of a very heinous crime against the american people and the world.
Delay is no exception.

Just think of the present administration as our little gift to you.

Enjoy! 8)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Jack', 'w')hat of Jevon's paradox?

As we reduce demand, the price will decline. Some other consumer - China, perhaps - will then consume more.

Thus, there would be no real gain from a Peak Oil perspective. The U.S. balance of payments might improve - but we might also see a reduction of GDP as domestic travel was effectively restricted.

In all seriousness, I don't see any real gain.

Ahh, Jevon's Paradox AKA, The Chewbacca Defense.

Maybe i'm wrong, but i don't think Jevon's Paradox is really sufficient reason to say..."why get up in the morning if i'm just going to die anyway."

I don't intend to die easy. Instead, I'll let others sacrifice and die.

I certainly see no reason to inconvenience myself with low speed limits so that someone, somewhere else can buy more fuel.

As for the "Chewbacca Defense", I've no idea what you're talking about.
