Just hit Fark.com. Won't be long now before it's DDOS or taken down. I hope I won.

Haha, awesome. Although it was a little too doomerish. "The planet's oil is almost all gone" and then "Peak Oil is almost here". It's idiots like these that make us look like jackasses saying the sky is falling. Things like this will just make people NOT look up Peak Oil, but to discount it immediately.

"You don't need a GPS system to know where this road leads you." Ha, love it.

Yes, and besides, peak oil means we're at the half-way point of oil production, I wouldn't really call that "almost all gone" ... :) Folks that confuse peak oil with the planet completely running out of oil make the whole movement easier to discredit.
I did dig the GPS line though.

I agree with you guys except that I think it would have been nearly impossible to express the true story in such a short spot. Imagine if the commercial had said: "The planet's oil is almost half gone." That doesn't sound too bad to someone who doesn't understand the situation.

How about "We are reaching a point in time called Peak Oil when oil production around the world will reach a peak and can no longer increase despite how much demand and money is being thrown around. After said peak, oil production will plateau for a few years and then decline at excessively high rates."

Ok, maybe too much.

I agree, it is difficult to express the story in a 30 second spot... however, I know that I've read Peak Oil discussions on other various (and completely unrelated) message boards and when people say things like "we're almost out of oil!" there will be like 5 other people who quickly jump up to scoff at them.
It's easier to explain the situation correctly in the first place and maintain your credibility (and thus the credibility of your argument) than to have to back-track and be like "oh, well, I don't really mean that our oil is almost gone but it's just easier to say that to get your attention" ... ya know?

I think the ad is great.
Even if the "half the oil is gone" statement is exaggeration. Exaggeration is what tv ads are all about anyway.
If the ad gets 1000 people who were othewise unaware to google peak oil it is well worth it. And if having the ad get yanked makes the news it is a huuuuge plus.
The difference between Genius and Stupidity is that Genius has its limits.

How do you get to the page where you can see the made ads that we've done? How did you get yours to go directly to that page basically?

When you have completed your commercial click on "send to a friend". A link will be sent to the specified adress in question. Post the link in the thread.

And to make direct links you should click on the little earth icon with two chain links. It's almost next to the "quote" icon.

If we're going to get it out to the public, you have to get down to their level. It has to be short and concise, full of swears, jiggling boobs, and repetitive. I mastered all of those (except the boobs). Click this:THIS!!!

Enjoyez.
