It was pretty good.

I recorded it, and am now converting it to AVI format.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '(')BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

SESNO: Roscoe Bartlett may seem like an unlikely rebel in the war to end America's addiction to oil. He's a 79-year-old former scientist, worked on America's manned space, program in the '60s, and a soft-spoken great grandfather.

REP. ROSCOE BARTLETT (R), MARYLAND: We have been using more oil than we have found.

SESNO: But he's also a feisty conservative Republican congressman from Maryland who believes we're headed for the far side of a cliff, a cliff called peak oil.

BARTLETT: There will be a day when we have reached our maximum capacity for producing oil. After that, it's going to be downhill.

SESNO: Bartlett is co-chair of the Congressional Peak Oil Caucus. He was there when the president said...

GEORGE W. BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: America is addicted to oil.

SESNO: Pleased to hear the words, but too little too late, contends Bartlett, who broke with his party and president last year and voted against their energy bill. He says it was simply inadequate.

SESNO (on camera): You're a Republican.

BARTLETT: I am.

SESNO: Pretty conservative guy. BARTLETT: But I'm not an idiot.

SESNO (voice-over): Bartlett recites the numbers. The world burns 84 million barrels of oil every day. The U.S. alone accounts for about a quarter of that. With explosive growth in places like China and India, it's estimated we'll need 40 percent more in just 20 years.

SESNO (on camera): If the world cannot produce more oil to keep up with growing demand, what happens?

BARTLETT: The least bad scenario, I think, is a deep worldwide recession. And if we don't work together, it could be the equivalent of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. War, famine, pestilence, and death.

SESNO (voice-over): Plenty of people reject Peak Oil's vision of impending doom, especially the oil industry. Exxon-Mobil has taken out ads saying with abundant oil resources, peak production is nowhere in site. "Hogwash," says Bartlett.

Bartlett heats his 150-year-old house with wood, has a passive solar greenhouse, and drives a hybrid car. He challenges his president, and calls for a mix of high and low-tech solutions, a big push on conservation and renewable fuels, higher fuel economy standards for cars and trucks, more nuclear power, fast.

BARTLETT: I'm probably going to be OK through my life. But what about my kids and my grandkids? What kind of a country are they going to live in? What kind of a world are they going to live in?

(END VIDEOTAPE)

I don't know how to make a torrent. :oops:

Here is a RealMedia video, though:

{edited to remove link}

It's 16 Mb. Get it while it's hot. (Right-click and save to your hard drive.)

{Removed link to preserve bandwidth. There's a Torrent file further down the thread, courtesy of Bleep.}

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Leanan', 'I') don't know how to make a torrent. :oops:

Get azureus, it runs on all platforms that support java and it has menu options to make a torrent. Then you won't have to bitch about bandwidth. You can bitch about people being leeches instead. :)

Thanks Leanan. That was good to see, and the poll results surprising.

Azureus looks too complicted for me. I can't even figure out what I'm supposed to download, let alone what to do with it after I've downloaded it. 8O

Thanks!

I think I figured out what I was doing wrong with Azureus. The "download" page doesn't actually have the program download, near as I can tell. I think I downloaded only the Java. The "how to install" page had a link to the actual program.

I've never used this:

but it might be easier.

Thanks for the heads up.

I didn't find the poll that surprising. It reflects the fact that most people know intuitively that oil is a finite resource and will one day be depleted, but they also think it will happen in the distant future.

Boy, are they in for a surprise!

Thanks for the link, I missed it by 20 minutes or so. I too was suprised by the second set of poll numbers, seems like there's less sheeple than I thought.

Thanks Leanan, especially in the name of all those like me who only can receive CNN international and couldn't watch the show (CNN international is even shittier than the original CNN).

Bartlett is just great -
"You are very conservative" - "But I am not an idiot!"

I think it's no coincidence that he is both from the old school and a scientist. This guy has both the brain and the balls to stand up for his opinions, you are really lucky to have at least one politician on the higher level concerned about PO, and he definitely already has made a difference.

This is radical coverage for corporate media, in fact this is the first time I hear the words "peak oil" there without immediately dismissing it as some fringe whacko theory.

Wolf Blitzers wording was classical though: "We have some very concerning polls..." Yeah right, so the polls are concerning and not reality...

The title "We were warned" is very worrying IMHO. It's like saying: "We told you all the way!" A hasty insurance for the coming aftermath of the blame game...

And it's like somebody yelling "watch out!" when the train already hit us, when before he laughed about your concern about walking on the tracks and train-whistle-noises behind the corner...

Torrents rock. It's a slick idea. There's no centralized server. Assuming
enough people are interested in the download, and they seed after
downloading, the concept works. Basically everyone contributes bandwidth,
both upstream and downstream.

I recommend azureus too. Check out the wiki:

I can also recomment utorrent: http://www.utorrent.com/

Small, uncomplicated and functional...

(Edit: Just read on their website that uTorrent became closed source in the meanwhile, frankly, I don't like that one bit....so maybe better stay with azureus! 2nd Edit: Obviously always was closed source, but now there is fuss about alledged proximity of developer to anti-P2P-organization, well make up your own mind about that...)

Well, I still haven't figured out how to make a torrent. I did get Azereus working, but it couldn't connect to the Internet. I've had no trouble configuring BitTorrent, BitTornado, Shareza, etc., but Azereus is a no-go. I don't know if it's my firewall or my ISP, but it can't get through, no matter what port I try.

Ah, well. Good thing we have Bleep. :)

You need to make certain whatever port azureus is using for NAT is open.
( Tools -> NAT/firewall test to check). You may have to update your
firewall and/or connect to your modem/router to open this port up.
Some ISP's will attempt to block it.
