$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Bleep', 'B')TW this is a new-style "trackerless" torrent.

http://www.bittorrent.com/trackerless.html

Latest version of azureus supports trackerless torrents (DHT) I believe.

Pretty slick.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')hanks Leanan, especially in the name of all those like me who only can receive CNN international and couldn't watch the show (CNN international is even shittier than the original CNN).

Gee, I like CNN International. If only because there's less coverage of Laci Peterson and that sort of thing.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')his is radical coverage for corporate media, in fact this is the first time I hear the words "peak oil" there without immediately dismissing it as some fringe whacko theory.

Yes, I was impressed with it. However, CNN is now running trailers for a documentary about how the sun is going to go nova one day and burn the Earth to a crisp. I can't help but wonder if they're putting peak oil in the same category.

Yes, it even generates them. Just have to fill out a short list of things in a dialog.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'Y')ou need to make certain whatever port azureus is using for NAT is open.
( Tools -> NAT/firewall test to check).

Tests okay, but not connecting.

However, the new Bittorrent is quick and easy, and seems to be working.

How do you get one of those "announce" URLs with a trackerless torrent, though?

Not sure, I don't have much experience with trackerless torrents.

You may only get the announce page on torrents with trackers. If you
have reasonable upstream you might as well both track and seed whatever
you want to distribute. Get the announce page that way too.

Anyway, tracking takes very little bandwidth (seeding's another story).

The "announce" URL is in the torrent file. Old-style ones had the address of the tracker. New style ones are based on DHT (distributed hash table.)

You know, I Googled "DHT" and it gave me "Double Hulled Tankers." :)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he "announce" URL is in the torrent file. Old-style ones had the address of the tracker. New style ones are based on DHT (distributed hash table.)

So how do I tell people where to get it? Do they just search for it on their own?

To me the polls are not that surprising because most americans
think gas for more than $2.00 a gallon is a energy crisis.I can't
wait till the first major media outlet or politician say's we can't
bring the troop's home because the ensuing chaos might spill over
into Saudi Arabia and cause the price of oil to go through the roof
and #$%$# are economy overnight.I hate to sound to cynical
but when they have a poll that asks do you think people are
dying every day in iraq so you can fill up cheaper and %80 of
the respondants say yes then I will think people are grasping
the energy crisis.Buy the way I thought Bartlett came across
very well today now if CNN would only have one of there
town hall meetings with all the major players on energy that
would be something to watch.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Leanan', 'S')o how do I tell people where to get it? Do they just search for it on their own?

You have to get:

1. Java from Sun. I think the JRE (Java Runtime Environment) will do.
2. The Azureus application (the p2p that no one can spell correctly)
3. The torrent file (the file that tells Azureus where to fetch from)

Install 1 and 2. Run Azureus. Click the folder icon in the upper left. Select the torrent file. Wait.

Azureus appears to be a no-go for me. I got the program installed, but it can't connect for some reason.

I have installed Bittorrent, and it seems to be working fine. This page gives instructions for making torrents, trackerless and otherwise:

http://www.bittorrent.com/guide.html

Unfortunately, it seems you still need control of a Web server, even with trackerless torrents. That means ordinary people (the kind who are not web admins) cannot distribute material.

Just to to http://torrentreactor.to/ and create an account. Then upload the torrent file there and annotate it.

Lighten up. Topic drift happens. Besides, this really isn't topic drift. I'm hoping to make the entire CNN documentary available after it airs this Saturday, but it's like to be 100 Mb or more, so bandwidth will be an issue.

No problem. Pax.

And to get this back on topic...here's CNN's page about "We Were Warned":

LINK

Judging from the bit aired last night, this could be good. Sesno seems to be really taking it seriously.

PO is definitely bubbling up to the surface in the mass media. Now I'm wondering how long it will take for the "mass consciousness" to start putting two and two together, and realizing that PO and Bush's beligerant foreign policy are intimately related.

Yeah it's definitely boiling up. I posted the interview on a website I frequent and got this response to the interview. It was a pretty selfish response.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'O')f all the goings on in this world this probably frost me the most.
I grew up with a push mower the kind that took man power to cut the grass.

We had bicycles up to the time we were of age to drive. I either walked or rode my bike.
Now our kids want us to drive them everywhere. we have our gas powered mowers. We drive gas hogs. thats our modern world.

Now they want to tell us we are wrong we waste too much oil and gas. Well tuff sh$%^&*t. thats life. Our next generation want to survive. Let them create that world. Our world was created for our generation they can do the same.
It's a cold cold world when a man has to pawn his shoes.

Good grief.

You know, I used to think Heinberg's "generational warfare" fears were silly. But things like that really make you wonder.
