$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('rogerhb', '
')Apart from that minor problem of "nothing lasts forever".
From the perspective of a single human life, which is but an instant compared to the lifespan of the Earth, which itself is an instant compared to the lifespan of the universe, worrying about nothing lasting forever is superfluous. In a few billion years we can start worrying about peak galaxy, but for the time being we can consider our available resources to be infinite.
Not to mention that energy cannot be destroyed.

How about structuring carbon at the atomic level?
What do you mean by that and how does it help? If you are referring to stronger materials, this hs been a known theoretical possibility.
My point is, any "solutions" will be based on long known principles. New secrets of the universe are not discovered very often (like every few centuries).

I’m talking about nanotech, in particular, carbon nanotech. This is a recent theory, a new technology, and an infant industry. Molecular engineering was first described in general by Richard Feynman in 1959, but nanotechnology as we think of it today was not developed until the 1980’s. It is a new area of physics.
Structuring carbon at the molecular level to create bucky balls, nano sheets and nano tubes has enormous ramifications in helping us with energy shortages. Structured carbon does not merely allow for materials hundreds of times stronger then steel, there are also a number of advantageous properties continuing to be discovered.
- Energy transmission; for example, powerlines without the considerable energy loss inherent in copper (plus an alternative to copper which many doomers claim is peaking soon).
- Ultra lightweight materials dramatically increasing energy efficiency in many applications (such as fuel consumption in cars)
- Energy storage; Improved battery cells and hydrogen storage capabilities
- Thermal conductivity applications
- Improved photovoltaic applications
- Improved I.T. applications

You mean the nanoscam

Here. Take my nanomoney. Please invest it in the nanomarket for me so I can make a nanokilling and retire to a nanobeach in nanohawaii. I'll have a nanomaitai please. You stole my nanostapler

No, the real scam is this peak oil nonsense.

prove it.
so far all you have for energy is the hot stinkey breath from your lungs.

It may seem this way to some people, but it’s not true. New discoveries are made quite frequently. Pick up a copy of any science magazine, and you’ll likely find a selection of recent discoveries.
Perhaps something like this: " Imagine being able to heat your home and to generate electricity for your own use, with about five percent of the fuel input it now takes just to get warm.". Not with your puny nanotech but with Colliding Plasma Toroids.
(EDIT) My point is that some people believe in this sort of thing, or zero point energy, etc. Or they expect geologists will discover a hitherto unknown substance to replace oil& gas.

I don't think you're one of these, but I wish you would be careful to phrase your views so as not to encourage such beliefs.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Lokutus', 'W')hoever writes this blog must be the smartest man in history!
Today he's ripped Jared Diamond research on Easter Island to shreds.
Link In earlier posts, he demolishes other alledged authorities in their fields.
This guy must have an IQ of 500 and Nobel Prizes in at least a dozen different scientific fields.
Seriously, does anyone know anything about him? Is he some auto-didactic crank who dropped out of school in the 9th grade?
Who the hell is he?
From the latest Salon article on Peak Oil:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')ake "J.D." (the only name he would give me), a 44-year-old American living in Japan who runs the blog Peak Oil Debunked.
Looks like the writer found the mysterious "JD's" reluctance to reveal his qualifications odd as well.
What will arrive first? Peak Oil or the Second Coming? My money is now on the latter.
