Yum Brands management presentations
KFC is part of Yum Brands, which also consists of Taco Bell, A and W, Long John Silver and Pizza Hut.
The company is doing well, on the whole, and supposedly has contingency plans in place for dealing with supply chain issues if the flu hits.
But their stated goal is to achieve 4% "same store sales growth" every year. In order to accomplish this, they need to shut down stores that are no longer growing, and build new stores out in the suburbs in growing areas to capture population growth patterns. When those stop growing, they will shut them down too.
If they keep open established stores that are not growing, they will not meet their targets, and their stock will be relatively unattractive compared to the Googles of the world and the management will get fired.
So you can see that if the suburbs stop growing, KFC will stop growing.
Also, you can see that the end result will be a lot of empty former KFC stores that will have to be torn down and/or turned into vacant lots.
